Falcons Fall to Norwich 3-2

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University volleyball team swept a non-conference tri-match on Saturday afternoon, outlasting Fisher College 3-2 and making quick work of Lyndon State, 3-0. 

Norwich (3-3) had four players with double-digit kills between the two matches with freshmen Julie Schroeder (Victorville, Calif.) and Kathryn Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) leading the way with 15 kills each. Sophomores Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and Monika Schneider (Brookline, N.H.) had 14 and 11 kills respectively between the two matches. 

Junior Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) had 52 assists in the eight sets to go along with seven digs as well. Zummo led the way defensively with 28 digs, while Farnum had 23 and sophomore Brianna Dawson (Katonah, N.Y.) chipped in 20 as well. 

Sophomore Marissa Perrotti (Moultonborough, N.H.) was lethal on the serve with 16 service aces between the two matches. 

The Cadets gutted out a back-and-forth nail biter vs. Fisher College in the opening match of the day, winning 21-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-15 and 15-13. Trailing 13-11 in the decisive fifth set, Norwich rallied to score four straight points to steal the victory away from the Falcons. 

Perrotti started the comeback with a kill to make it 13-12, she then finished it after a Fisher attacking error and a Farnum kill to clinch the match with the match point on a kill off an assist from Oliver. 

Norwich made quick work of Lyndon State, downing the Hornets by scores of 25-8, 25-6 and 25-9. The Cadets posted a season-best .324 attacking percentage en route to their third straight victory on the year. 

Perrotti led the way with all 16 of her service aces. Schnieder added nine more aces as well. 

Norwich concludes its four-match home stand, hosting Southern Vermont on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Andrews Hall. The Cadets will look to stay perfect this season on their home court.
