Mustangs Hit Double Digits with Win Over Falcons

NEWTON, Mass. – The Mount Ida College women's volleyball team defeated visiting Fisher College 3-1 on Monday night, stretching their win streak to three games and notching their tenth win of the season. 

The Mustangs improve to 10-6 overall, securing just their second season of double-digit wins since 2012. Fisher slides back to .500 at 5-5. 

Mount Ida took the opening set 25-20 but Fisher powered back and tied the match with a 25-13 effort in set two. After another 25-20 win in the third set to seize the momentum back, Mount Ida closed out the Falcons emphatically with a 25-11 fourth set win. 

Junior Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.) led the Mustangs with nine kills and sophomore Hanna Simpkins (Walpole, N.H.) had six of Mount Ida's 13 service aces in the victory. 

Sophomore setter Lex Bell (Salem, Conn.) posted a double-double with 26 assists and 22 digs, along with six kills, while Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) inched closer to 1,000 career kills, compiling seven of the eleven she needed to reach the milestone. 

Fisher junior Cynthia Huerta (Salinas, Calif.) led all players with 16 kills and also had 144 digs and two service aces. Govanna Rosado (Humacao, Puerto Rico) added five kills, 23 assists and 10 digs in the losing effort. 

Mount Ida is home again Wednesday evening when Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play continues with a 5:00 pm match against Simmons. 

The Falcons head to Hellenic College to play Newbury on Friday at 7:00 PM.
