Fisher Soars in Battle of the Falcons

Boston, MA- The Fisher Falcons Volleyball team (9-6) kept their winning streak alive defeating the Fitchburg State Falcons (2-14) in straight sets. This win for Fisher marks their 6th straight victory, all with 3-0 finishes. With 15 straight set victories leading them into today's contest the Falcons were ready to continue to dominate on the court.

The first set started slow with Fitchburg quickly jumping out to a 7-4 lead after a kill by Kristina Osborne and a number of Fisher errors. The Falcons quickly regrouped and with an impressive attacking and defensive presence by Chyna Carter (Avondale, AZ) regained control of the set and never looked back. The continued attacking presence of Carter, Maura Lammers (Augusta, GA) and Yeryvel Catala (Gurabo, PR) led Fisher to a commanding 25-16 first set victory.

The second set followed along the same momentum of the first with the Falcons flying out to a commanding 9-2 lead. Fitchburg State was set for the fight and battled their way back into the action after a service rotation error by Fisher led to some moments of unease for the young squad. Captain Nati Manalo (San Francisco, CA) settled her team in with some strong defensive play to stem the surging tide of Fitchburg and set the winning point for Catala to close out the set 25-20.

After the weariness of the closing points of the second set, Fisher stepped back up to put this match away. Behind Catala's 12 kills, Carter's 9 kills and 4 blocks, and the quick hands of Lammers with 5 kills, one being a piercing unassisted kill to stall a Fitchburg comeback at 6-9, the Falcons were poised to sprint to the finish. Fitchburg, led by Kristina Osborne, were not going to go down without a fight, and battled their way back to tie it up. They ensured Fisher earned that third set victory. Peri Yath's (Amherst, MA) killer serve though ended up being all that was needed at the end of the match as she served up an ace to Fitchburg's Chloe Guzman to grab the win.

The Fisher Falcons were led by impressive play all around. The team was led in kills by Catala (12 Kills) and Carter (9 Kills). Lia Ames (Las Piedras, PR), 15 aces and Manalo, 10 aces and 14 digs, were serving it up from the back. Peri Yath's 17 TAs, and Lammers' 10 Digs, helped to round out the scoring with 7 points each in the match to make this 9th win for Fisher a true team win.

The Falcons are back in action tomorrow, October 7th as they take on the University of Maine- Fort Kent for some early morning action, 10am and Noon, at Winsor School in Boston.
