The Women's Volleyball Win Streak Ends At Six As They Lose Two To Univ. of ME- Fort Kent

Boston, MA- For the second time this season the women's volleyball team loses to a tough Univ. of ME-Fort Kent, in a doubleheader earlier today. The Falcons (9-8) managed to earn a game in each set, but ultimately lost both games 3-1 (25-8, 25-13, 23-25, 25-14 and 25-13, 19-25, 25-16, 25-14) to the Bengals (17-4).

The Falcons came out hard in Game 1 as they were looking forward to a rematch against the Bengals, a team that had beaten them 3-0 earlier this season.  Each team traded points in the early going of the match, but after Fisher got within one at 6-5, Fort Kent went on a 7-0 run forcing Coach Lau to call his first time out. Fisher bounced back and earned the next point out of the time out, but Fort Kent closed out the match with a 12-3 run to earn the win in Game 1, 25-8.  Similar to Game 1, the Falcons came out hard in Game 2 as the two team were tied at 5-5. But the offensive attack led by Luse Lumas (Ewa Beach, HI) and her 22 kills overpowered the Falcons to take Game 2. Despite being down 2-0, the Falcons did not give up.  With their backs against the wall, down 16-11, the Falcons clawed their way back and took the lead at 22-24, forcing the Bengals to call a time out.  Fort Kent took the next point, but Fisher was able to hold on the Bengals committed a service error to win 25-23.  The Falcons took the momentum into Game 4 with a 4-1 lead to start, but the Bengals overcame the early deficit and finished the match with a 10-2 run to take the win, 25-14.  Periya Yath (Amherst, MA) and Chyna Carter (Avondale, AZ) led the offense with seven kills a piece, while Natie Manalo (San Francisco, CA) and Lia Aime (Las Piedras, PR) had a combined 19 assists and 29 digs.

In Set 2, Game 1 started with Fisher earning the first two points, and the Falcons held the lead at 6-5. But the was the last time they trailed in Game 1 as the two teams traded points, but the Bengals finishedd Game 1 with a 9-1 run to close out the game, 25-13.  Fisher took an early 4-2 again in Game 2, and led as many as four points to take control of the game early.  Fort Kent took its last lead of the game at 19-17, but Maura Lammers (Augusta, GA) led her team to eight straight points to take Game 2 19-25. Unfortunately for the Falcons that was the last lead they would have for the day as the Bengals took the last two games without relinquishing a lead, 25-16 and 25-14.  Yeryvel Catala (Gurabo, PR) and Carter led the offense in Set 2 as they combined for 21 kills and 24 digs, while Manalo and Aime led the setting game with 27 assists.

The Falcons hit the road again and look to get back on the winning track on Thursday when they head to Anna Maria for a 7pm start.
