Falcons Suffer Stinging Second Loss

Weston, MA - With the post-season nearing, the Falcons (14-10) looked to improve on their historic winning season as they travel to Regis College to take on the Pride (12-13). Fisher held strong throughout the match in their attempt to bounce back from a tough loss this past weekend versus Eastern Nazarene and get back on the winning track.

Fisher battled through the first set of the match quickly jumping ahead 3-0. Fisher errors allowed Regis to jump back into the action and tie up the set. The first set fluctuated back and forth between the two teams before Mica van der Meulen began her service and jumped Regis out to a six point advantage. Maura Lammers' service looked to be a turning point in the set for Fisher, helping to close the gap 15-20. The Pride managed to hang on despite valiant efforts by the Falcons before finally claiming the set 18-25.

The start of the second set saw the Falcons and Regis matching points serve for serve, neither team backing down and rallying for every point. The match remained close trading off serves before double errors by Regis College allowed the Falcon's team behind Lammers to again begin taking hold of the set at 11-7. Regis held strong under pressure and bounced back after errors plagued the Falcons who failed to recapture the serve. When Fisher's Natie Manalo regained the service rotation, the Falcons were now on the wrong side of the 12-13 set. More back and forth battles ensued before van der Meulen and the Pride forced the Falcons into tight situations leading to inconsistent play. Fisher played it hard for the remainder of the set before falling 19-25.

Regis hopped out of the gate at the start of the third set, jumping out to a 3-0 lead. Manalo's strong serve and solid defense helped the Falcons tie it up and push the team into the lead at 4-3. Continued attacking errors by Fisher and solid defensive play by the Pride quickly set the Falcons back 5-12 in the third set before they had a chance to return back to the service line. A service rotation by Lammers again helped to close the gap in the set to a far more manageable 8-13 and a return to a back and forth battle. The Pride found themselves on their heels at the end of the third set as the Falcons attempted to close the gap, putting pressure on all fronts. Regis was able to hold off the pressure and maintain their lead to a 17-25 victory and a clean three sets to null victory.

While errors plagued the Falcons throughout the match their determination and grit forced each set into tough finishes. Fisher was led by Lammers (4 Kills and 2 Service Aces), Yeryvel Catala (8 Kills, 9 Digs and 1 Service Ace) and Manalo's (14 Assists, 14 Digs and 1 service Ace) all-around performance.

The Falcons look to improve their record tomorrow at 7pm as they travel down the road to match up against Simmons College (13-12).
