Weston, MA - Fisher Volleyball headed on the road again for their 8th road game of the season and got off to hot a start, winning the first game of the match. But it was Regis who finished hot as they won the last three sets to seal the non-conference matchup, 3-1. With the victory the Pride improve to 6-10 while the Falcons fall to 4-10.
The Falcons won the first three points of the match and never lost the lead in the first set, eventually extending its lead to 19-11 on a service ace by Cynthia Huerta (Salinas, CA) and a Regis attack error. Three kills by Huerta helped the Falcons towards set point, and Fisher would clinch the opening set on the Pride's 11th attack error of the first set, 25-18.
Regis responded in the second set and opened with a 7-1 scoring run, featuring two kills and three service aces by Rita Dow. Fisher stayed in the set though, closing its deficit to three on an ace by Lia Aime (Las Piedras, PR) and then using three straight kills by Huerta to cut the Pride lead to two at 16-14, but that would be the closest the Falcons could get as Regis would go on to win four of the final five points of the set, 25-19.
The Pride picked up where they left off in the third set, getting out to an early 5-0 lead. FC battled back, getting to within four as Katherine Rodriguez (Fajardo, PR) and Aime each tallied a service ace to bring the score to 9-5. But again, the Pride would continue to increase their advantage as the set went on, closing it out with a 10-2 scoring run, led by three kills from Valerie Whalen to take the third set 25-11.
The fourth set was back and forth to start, as Fisher scored the first two points before Regis scored the next three. The Falcons retook the lead on two kills by Huerta to make it 5-4, but the Pride pulled ahead on five straight points featuring three straight service aces by Emily Fagundo to make it 9-5. The Falcons did all they could to stay in the match as they earned three out of the next four points to make it 10-8, but it was not enough as the Pride finished the match on a 15-6 run to win the final set 25-14.
Huerta led the Falcons with 16 kills and 19 digs, while Aime finished with 14 digs and five service aces. Rodriguez ran the offense for Fisher, tallying 23 assists, seven digs, and two service aces, while Emma Soubosky (Leominster, MA) contributed 12 digs in the losing effort. Katryna Veasey led the Pride with 11 kills and 20 digs, while Tori Ondrus and Fagundo combined for 31 assists in the victory.
Fisher will be back at it on Thursday when they head to Pine Manor to take on the Gators in a doubleheader matchup starting at 6pm.
