The Lady Falcons Make Quick Work Of The Wildcats

Boston, MA- The Lady Falcons Volleyball team needed just one hour to take a 3-0 win over the visiting Bay Path Wildcats on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Falcons improve to 7-12 this season, while the Wildcats drop to 3-12.

All three sets started close as each team battled for the lead early on. In the first set with the Falcons leading 7-5, the home team went on a key 8-1 run highlighted by four kills by four different Falcons to go up 15-6. Bay Path rallied to get within four at 18-14, but that would be the closest the Wildcats would get as the Falcons capped off set number one with another 7-1 run to take it 25-15.

The second set was a game of big runs from each team with the Wildcats responding first in the second set, taking the lead for the first time in the match 3-1. But the Falcons quickly fought back earning eight of the next nine points to regain the lead, 9-4. The seesaw battle continued as BPU tied it up with a 7-2 run of their own to make it an 11-11 game. Fisher took another five point lead on three straight serves from Charisse Lazu (Trujillo Alto, PR) to go up 19-14 and forcing a Bay Path timeout. The Wildcats came out of the timeout and would get back to within a pair of points at 21-19, but that would be the closest they would get as the Falcons closed it out with the final two points, taking advantage of two Wildcat errors, clinching the second set 25-21.

FC looked to close the door early in the third set, building a quick 12-7 lead, but the Wildcats would not go quietly. Taking advantage of four straight Falcons errors, the Wildcats got within three at 13-10 in favor of the home team. But again, the Falcons had the answer, going on an 8-3 run to regain the 8-point lead at 21-13 capped by an Erica Nunez (Dorchester, MA) service ace. Bay Path made it interesting, grabbing the sets next five points making it a 21-18 set, but the Falcons tallied four of the matches final five points to seal the 25-19 third set victory, claiming the 3-0 match for their 7th win.

The Falcons were led offensively by Cynthia Huerta (Salinas, CA) who led all players with 17 kills and six digs. Katherine Rodriguez (Fajardo, PR) continued to set well, earning 24 assists and eight digs, while junior Lia Aime (Las Pierdas, PR) led all players with 10 digs in the victory. The Wildcats were led by Lydia Clifford and Marissa Courchesne who each contributed five kills, while combining for 12 digs in the losing effort. Khyarah Gaston-Feliciano also played well for the visitors, adding eight assists and eight digs for her squad.

Fisher will be back on the court again tomorrow afternoon as they play host to conference rival Washinton Adventist. The action is slated for a 12pm start at the Winsor School in Boston, MA.
