Jocelyn Mendoza Named NAIA Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete

Boston, MA- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced 312 women's basketball student-athletes have been named 2019 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Senior women's basketball player, Jocelyn Mendoza, earned this prestigious honor by continuously excelling in the classroom throughout her tenure as a Falcon.

In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor. The senior forward, a native from Morgan Hill, CA, not only performed well in the classroom, but was a solid contributor for her team. In two seasons, Mendoza grabbed 303 rebounds (5.1 rebounds per game), while tallying 228 points (4.0 points per game). Used primarily for her defense, she was second on the team in offensive rebounds this season (64) and was third on the team in steals (37). As a captain, she was a key component to the team's success this season, a second straight trip to the A.I.I. playoffs, finishing with a 19-11 overall record, the highest win total ever by the team.

Jocelyn will graduate this spring with a degree in Criminal Justice.
