Fisher Student-Athletes Take Home The Champions Of Charity Award At The NAIA Convention

Boston, MA- Last weekend at the NAIA Convention in West Palm Beach, FL, Fisher College student-athletes were recipients of the Champions of Charity Award. Champions of Charity is an organization that helps to build unity amongst athletic teams through community service. The organization's vision is to create an environment where giving back to the community is an integral part of student development. The Helper Helper mobile application tracks volunteer hours for all students at an institution. The organization has partnered with the NAIA for the next two academic years and an integral part of the partnership is a service competition amongst NAIA schools. Each school that participated logged their hours using the Helper Helper app between February 1 and April 1.

Many Fisher student-athletes participated over the two-month stretch under the direction of Meghan Case, a women's basketball player and President of the Association of Student-Athletes (ASA). Case oversaw the organization of the teams use of the Helper Helper app, and the community service events they participated in throughout the spring. She was rewarded with the honor of accepting the award on Fisher's behalf.

Many of the Falcons volunteered for the Clemente Cup in March which was a weekend-long baseball tournament that attracted many fans, alums and recruits to Fraser Field in Lynn, MA. Others earned hours working with the Cradles to Crayons organization. "I'm very proud of Fisher College student-athletes for winning the Champions of Charity Award. We do so much community service and engagement on our campus, I'm glad we are getting recognized for the hard work we put in throughout the year," said Case of her fellow student-athletes.

Meghan, representing the A.I.I. Conference at the Convention, was one of 25 ASA Presidents that also had the opportunity to attend workshops and presentations throughout the weekend. "My experience working with the Association of Student Athletes has been very rewarding. I've learned from other student-athletes how my leadership skills can benefit my campus and fellow student-athletes. I'm extremely excited to start implementing what I've learned this past year at our own campus." Case attended the convention with Falcons athletic director Cathy Courtney, and Head Men's Basketball Coach Rob Blouin who oversees ASA.  "I am proud of our students and prioritizing giving back to the community," said Courtney.
