Boston, MA- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced 439 baseball student-athletes have been named 2019 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, two of which were Fisher Falcons. Fifth-year grad student, Kevin Bongiovanni, and junior Jamie Whynot, earned this prestigious honor by continuously excelling in the classroom throughout the 2018-2019 academic year.

In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor. Bongiovanni, a native from Bayside, NY, not only performed well in the classroom, but was a solid contributor on the mound for his team. In two seasons as a Falcon he has accumulated six wins on the mound and two saves in 48 innings pitched. He has also struck out 58 batters while allowing just 26 earned runs in his career. This season he has allowed just 16 earned runs over 24 innings pitched. This June, he will receive his Master's of Business Administration after graduating Magna Cum Laude a year ago.

Whynot, a native of Nova Scotia, Canada, played primarily at first and as a designated hitter in his first season as a Falcon. He finished the season with 14 hits in 18 games, seven of which were doubles, while finishing the season with a .350 average. He is currently enrolled in the Criminal Justice program, finishing his year with one of the highest GPA's in the program.
