Falcons Come Up Short Against The Mavericks In The Thanksgiving Classic

Grand Junction, CO- The Falcons came out strong in the opening half against the Colorado Mesa Mavericks (6-1) as they were looking to bounce back from the opening loss to Western Colorado the night before. They picked up right from when they left off the night before, knocking down their first five shots of the game, and shooting an impressive 60% from the floor in the first 20 minutes of the contest.  The host Mavericks also caught fire, shooting 58% on the night, and the Falcons could not hang on and fell to the host Mavericks 90-66.

The first 16 minutes of the game was back and forth, as there were three lead changes and three ties as both teams shot well from the floor, combining for a 59% shooting percentage. Senior Brandon Rembert (Camden, NJ) brought his team within one on a fast break to make it 30-29 with 4:28 left on the clock and helped quiet the large crowd in the Brownson Arena. But that would be the closest Fisher would get, as CMU responded and went on a 14-6 run to close out the half, leading 43-36.

The Mavericks hot shooting continued in the second half as they shot 57% the last 20 minutes, while shooting 43% from behind the arc. The Falcons did all they could to remain close, but they could not contain the CMU offense led by Connor Nichols and Damon Dubots who combined for 43 points on 72% shooting (18 for 25).

Rembert led all scorers in the losing effort scoring a season high 28 points to go along with five rebounds.  Junior Ville Milan (Turku, Finland) also scored in double figures for his team, tallying 11 points, including two 3-pointers.  Senior Kyle Snowden (Santa Cruz, CA) played well defensively for his squad as he had four steals and four rebounds to go along with his eight points.

Fisher will head back East today and will look to gear up for their road trip on Tuesday against Coast Guard Academy at 7pm.  The game can be found live here: https://portal.stretchinternet.com/uscga/
