Athletics: Hall of Fame Class of 2021 Announced

Story written and posted by Anthony Perry ’08, Fisher College Assistant Athletic Director/Sports Information

BOSTON, MASS. – The Fisher College Athletic Department is proud to announce that we will have five new inductees in the Fisher College Athletics Hall of Fame on April 30, 2022. The decorated HOF Class of 2021 will be the 15th class to be inducted and it will also be a celebration of the department’s 20th year celebration.

The Class of 2021 are (in alphabetical order): Madison Carroll ’18 (Women’s Basketball), Murphy Carroll ’18 (Women’s Basketball), Gary Lunetta ’12 (Baseball), Jose Paulino ’13 (Baseball), and Julia Schojan ’18 (Women’s Soccer).

“Being inducted into the Fisher College Athletics Hall of Fame is such a prestigious honor.” Assistant Athletic Director, former Fisher Baseball Student-Athlete and current Hall of Fame member Anthony Perry ’08 had to say. “This Class of 2021 represents the very best of their era for their respective teams. Each inductee played vital roles for their programs that are showcased in today’s teams. Without the efforts of these five individuals, Fisher College Athletics along with the 10 varsity athletic programs would not be where we are today.”

Madison Carroll ’18 | Women’s Basketball

One half of the dynamic duo, Madison Carroll helped transform the Women’s Basketball program from a three win team her freshman season to a 17-win team and an appearance in the Association of Independent Institution (A.I.I.) Tournament in her senior year. The Methuen, Massachusetts native appeared in 96 career games for the Falcons, totaling 1,343 points, 464 rebounds, and 373 assists. She also registered a career points per game average of 14.0 and shot 35.8% from the field in her career.

She became the 4th member of the Fisher Falcon 1000 point club on November 21, 2017 joining her sister and fellow inductee Murphy Carroll in the elite class. During that magical senior season, Madison recorded career highs in points (488), rebounds (147), and assists (120). She was named to the A.I.I. All-Conference Second Team for her efforts that year.

“Madison Carroll is a leader first.” said former Fisher Head Women’s Basketball Coach Jesse Ford. “That’s what made her a great point guard. She showed up every day and had the following of the entire roster. Without her positive leadership, the over-achievements of the women’s basketball program would not have been reached.”

Madison is married to fellow Fisher Hall of Famer Victor Lebron ’14, HOF ’17 and they reside in Methuen, Massachusetts. A Criminal Justice major, she is currently employed as Federal Officer for the Department of Homeland Security.

Murphy Carroll ’18 | Women’s Basketball

A member of the dynamic duo, Murphy Carroll transcended the Fisher College Women’s Basketball program over her 101 game career. The Methuen, Massachusetts native scorer 1,629 points in her four-year career to go along with her 400 rebounds and 216 assists. She helped guide the program to a 17-win season in her senior season after combining to win just 16 wins in her first three seasons. Murphy Carroll average 16.1 points per game and under a new head coach in her final year, she tallied career bests in field goals made (151), rebounds (116), and was two-points shy of tying her career high with 448 points scored in 2017-18.

Murphy Carroll etched her name in the Fisher record books on January 16, 2017 as she became the 3rd Fisher Women’s Basketball student-athlete to reach 1,000 career points joining both Javanna Bernard ’14 (1,831 points) and current Hall of Famer Tiffany Beckman ’11 (1,292 points) in the illustrious club.

“Murphy Carroll is a shooter and flat our scorer.” Continued Ford. “She had limitless energy and that was necessary in order for her to make the offensive scoring impacts while being the focus of every defense that she faced.”

On the Carroll sisters as a duo, Ford had this to say: “Together, the sisters are the faces of success when it comes to the Fisher College Women’s Basketball program. They fought through some challenging seasons early in their career, ignored every difficulty of playing their senior season under a new head coach, and out-performed anyone else that had ever worn a Falcons uniform. Their individual skills are clear to see when looking at their career stats, however it is what they accomplished by leading a program to its first winning record and its first trip to post-season play that will forever stand out in Falcons Women’s Basketball history.”

Murphy still resides in Methuen, Massachusetts and has put her criminal justice degree to use as she is a Federal Officer for the Department of Homeland Security. She also gives back to her community as the Junior Varsity coach at Methuen High.

Gary Lunetta ’12 | Baseball

Lunetta was a four-year member of the Baseball program, appearing in 151 games between the 2009-2012 seasons. A native of North Andover, Massachusetts, Lunetta was the ultimate utility player for the Falcons. He started at least one game at every position except for pitcher and catcher during his tenure as he finished with a .319 batting average and 136 hits. He was a two-time Sunrise Conference All-Conference selection while also earning a conference gold glove and was the team’s captain in 2012. His best season was his sophomore campaign (2010) in which he batted .342 with 53 hits, 39 runs scored and 19 runs batted in. Lunetta also swiped 19 of 23 stolen base attempts while playing in 46 games.

His 107 runs scored and 56 career stolen bases are still ranked in the Top 10 for the baseball program. He was on-pace to set new program records before his senior season was cut short due an errant throw on a pickoff attempt broke his jaw. Over his four years, he helped the baseball program win 100 games and capture three Sunrise Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships.

“Gary was a team player.” said Fisher College Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach Scott Dulin. “He didn’t care about the position he played or where he was in the batting order, but only about winning the game. He was the ultimate dirt dawg as I cannot remember a game or practice where his uniform was not filthy.”

Lunetta currently lives in Hampton, New Hampshire with his wife Victoria and their two kids, Vincenzo and Giavanna, and is the Senior Manager, Physical Security Technology & Design at Salesforce.

Jose Paulino ’13 | Baseball

Paulino was a five-year member of the Baseball program as a student-athlete. He was a redshirt in his first season which allowed him to learn the game at the college level before working his way into the Hall of Fame. The Lawrence, Massachusetts native was a utility player during his first season in 2010 until he found a home as the program’s shortstop for the remainder of his career. While his statistics are not eye popping, they are really good for his position. Paulino appeared in 176 career games in the Falcon blue and white, compiling a .291 batting average with 138 hits and 63 runs batted in. He was selected to the Sunrise Conference All-Conference team in 2011.

The everyday shortstop played in 50+ games in each of his final two seasons while helping to form one of the greatest infields in Fisher Baseball history during the 2011 season with fellow inductee Lunetta and current Hall of Famers Michael Oliveira ‘11/HOF ’15 and Davidson Peguero ‘15/HOF ’18. His best season was in 2012 as he batted .298 with career highs in hits (44), RBI (24), doubles (5), and stolen bases (8). Over his tenure, the program won 108 games and captured two Sunrise Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships along with making the programs first-ever Association of Independent Institutions tournament appearance in 2013.

“He was like having a coach on the field.” remarked Dulin. “Having this type of leader is a coach’s dream. He knew the scouting report as well as I did. He was a key part for us as we transitioned during the post-Sunrise Conference era both on the field as a student-athlete and post-graduation as an assistant coach.”

Paulino still resides in Lawrence with his longtime girlfriend, and former Fisher student Jeiza. He is still active within the local baseball community as he helps run the Expos Baseball franchise that competes in the Intercity League, the Yawkey Baseball League, and the Commonwealth Amateur Baseball League.

Julia Schojan ’18 | Women’s Soccer

Schojan was a program-changing student-athlete over her illustrious four year career. The Rochester, New York native scored a program record and NAIA career record 146 goals over her time on Beacon Street as she played in 68 career contests. Schojan was named to the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) All-Conference teams three times along with being a NAIA Scholar Athlete in 2016. During her four seasons, the Women’s Soccer program won a total of 44 games and had a winning percentage of .698.

At the time of graduation, Schojan held the NAIA career record of 339 points, which has since been passed as she sits 4th overall. The striker was responsible for 20 game-winning goals during her career and was selected as the conference’s player of the week five times. Schojan was also selected as the NAIA National Player of the Week twice. She saved the best for last as in her senior campaign, Schojan scored 41 goals in 17 games however her best all-around season was in 2015 when she netted 39 goals and accumulated 22 assists. That season, the Falcons also made the program’s only appearance at the A.I.I. Conference Tournament in 2015.

“Julia’s influence on the women’s soccer program at Fisher is undeniable.” Former Fisher Head Women’s Soccer Coach William Maddock said. “She is the most prolific goal scorer I have ever coached and her production at the college level is unrivaled. To finish your career as the all-time leader in college soccer (regardless of level) is truly remarkable. It was a tremendous honor to coach Julia and aid in her development not only as a soccer player but as a person. I am so happy for her and her family that she is receiving this Hall of Fame honor as her impact on the program will last forever.”

Schojan currently resides in Hoboken, New Jersey and is the Owner & Founder of Casa Luxxe, an Interior Decorating & Staging company (IG: @CasaLuxxe).
