BOSTON, MASS. – Today, we are pleased to announce that former Head Men’s Basketball Coach, David Lindberg will be inducted into the Fisher College Athletics Hall of Fame. The HOF banquet will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 in Alumni Hall on campus. He becomes just the second former Falcon coach to be inducted into immortality, joining current Director of Athletics & Head Baseball Coach Scott Dulin HOF ’05.
“I could not be more honored to join the amazing student-athletes, coaches, and school leaders in the Fisher College Athletics Hall of Fame.” said Lindberg from his office in Korea. “My 12 years coaching at Fisher are some of the most memorable and rewarding of my life. Fisher – and especially the amazing players who played for me – will always hold a special place in my heart. It will be great to see everyone again.”
Coach Lindberg guided the Men’s Basketball program for 12 seasons from 2005-06 to 2016-17. He totaled a career record of 184-168 (.535 winning percentage) while making four trips to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Tournament. Lindberg began his career on the Falcon bench prior to the 2005-06 season as an assistant coach under the late James Greer and was promoted to Head Coach seven games into the season following Greer’s departure. The rallied and won his first game on December 10, 2005 – an 86-76 overtime thriller against Maine Maritime and then defeated Maine-Presque Isle the following day as they won the UMPI Men’s Basketball Tip-Off Classic. That season, the Falcons captured the program’s second Sunrise Conference title and made the trek out to Branson, Missouri for the NAIA National Tournament for the second consecutive season.
Coach Lindberg’s teams would make three more appearances in Missouri over the duration of his career in the Fisher Blue-and-White. His final appearance was a memorable one in 2011 as he was able to coach against the legendary late Rollie Massaimino, who’s Northwood University (Fla.) team was ranked #2 in the final coach’s poll.
His established “up-tempo” system saw many of his student-athletes flourish in the northeast. Coach Lindberg had the opportunity to coach some of the program’s best players, helping them reach goals on the court but off the court as well in obtaining a college education. He coached three Sunrise Conference Players of the Year, two NAIA Academic All-Americans, one Sunrise Conference Rookie of the Year and eight 1,000-point scorers. Coach Lindberg also guided the Falcons to a nation’s best 20-game winning streak during the 2009-10 campaign while surpassing the 20+ win mark in five different times. In fact, the 2009-10 squad still holds the program record with 24 wins in a single season.
Coach’s legacy has been a staple at the Fisher College Athletics Hall of Fame banquets through his tenure. He is noted for creating and cultivating the prestigious Ryan Henry Award – given annually to a deserving men’s and women’s basketball student-athlete who embodies the sprit and passion for the programs. Ryan Henry was a former student-athlete under Coach Lindberg who tragically lost his life while at home over a holiday break. The award was first presented at the 2012 HOF ceremonies and it has remained ever since.
Before his time on Beacon Street began, Lindberg was a media relations intern with the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs. He was fortunate to be able to get his coaching career started in the Spurs’ Drug-Free Basketball League – a youth program for inner-city teenagers in the San Antonio area.
Coach Lindberg joins the 2004-05 Men’s Basketball team and former student-athletes Michael Newcombe ‘07/HOF ’12, Casey Pursell ‘09/HOF ’15, and Kyle Murphy ’14/HOF ’19 as the only members of the Men’s Basketball program to be enshrined in the Fisher Athletics Hall of Fame.
