The Scorpions swept the five-game series from the Falcons with a 6-5 win over Fisher. UTB/TSC is now 20-10 for the season, while Fisher dropped to 0-9.
Fisher visited UTB/TSC every year since the 2008, but has won only twice in 25 games. The Falcons continue their trip to South Texas with three games at NCAA Division II St. Mary's University Friday and Saturday, then play four games at The University of Houston-Victoria Saturday and Sunday. The team from Boston will have played 12 games in South Texas in nine days.
UTB/TSC won the first four games of the series by scores of 9-4, 12-4, 12-8 and 12-4. The Scorpions were able to take advantage of an inexperienced bullpen in previous victories, including a 12-run eighth inning in Tuesday's win.
Fisher's pitching was better Wednesday, but it was the Falcons' inability to bring home base runners Wednesday that hurt the most. Fisher left 16 runners on base in the nine innings included the bases loaded in the first, third and fourth innings.
The Falcons took a 5-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning before the Scorpions rallied for two in the fifth to make it 5-4. With two out in the sixth, on a 1-2 pitch, the redshirt freshman Garza sailed a deep drive over the left-center-field fence to put the Scorpions on top, 6-5.
Neither team scored in the final three innings.
The Scorpions had only four hits in the game, and were aided by seven Fisher walks. UTB/TSC left six runners on base, 10 less than Fisher did.
