Lynn, MA -- The Falcons earned their 10th win of the season but lost the weekend series to American Mideast rival Walsh University 3 games to 1.
In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader Carlos Ditren went 5 innings and allowed just 2 runs on 3 hits to record his 3rd win of the season.
Walsh scored the game's 1st run when Trevor Smith scored on a Ditren wild pitch. The Falcons leveled the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning when Denon Rushing's single to left scored Victor Lebron who had reached on an error by Walsh shortstop R.J Vukovich.
Fisher gained the lead in the 3rd inning off of Ronnie Rosario's RBI groundout. Kenny Kahle started the inning with a double to deep left field and advanced to 3rd on a Lebron groundout before scoring on Rosario's out.
Two more runs were added by Fisher in the 5th on a Rosario sacrifice fly and a Denon Rushing groundball that was misplayed by the Walsh shortstop.
Walsh got one run back in the 6th inning but freshman Chris Cantu relieved Ditren and eliminated the Cavs scoring threat to record his 2nd save of the season.
The Walsh Cavaliers earned a split of Saturday's doubleheader with a 6-0 victory in the nightcap. The win was Walsh's 1st of the series which concluded Sunday with another doubleheader.
The visitors blew open a 0-0 game with a 4 run 3rd inning to take commanding control of the game. The Falcons committed two errors and all four runs were unearned. Walsh added additional runs in the 6th and 7th innings to provide some breathing room.
Despite taking the loss, Falcons junior Casey Reed pitched well. Reed went 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 5 hits and 1 earned run. The junior right-hander also had 9 strikeouts.
In the first game of Sunday's doubleheader Walsh University's senior pitcher Bill Gura carried a no hitter into the 6th inning to lead his Cavaliers to a 9-4 victory. Gura's no hit bid was eventually broken up when the Falcons scored 4 runs on 4 hit in the 6th but the rally wasn't enough as the Cavs were already leading 8-0 at the time. The visitors tacked on an insurance run in the top of the 7th to ensure their second straight victory over the Falcons.
Victor Lebron, who leads the Falcons in hitting on the year, collected 2 of Fisher's 4 hits. Freshman Alex Fowler took the loss for the Falcons after going just 3 innings. Fowler allowed 7 runs (6 earned) on 10 hits. He struck out 2 of the 21 batters he faced.
The 4th game of the series was all Walsh University needed as the Cavaliers used 15 hits and 5 Fisher errors to score 16 runs and ease to a 16-1 series clinching victory.
Walsh scored two unearned runs in the top of the 1st on 2 hits and 1 error. The scoring outburst would continue for the next 5 innings as the visitors managed 6 runs in the 2nd, 2 runs in the 3rd, 3 in the 4th and another 3 runs in the 5th inning.
The Falcons scored their lone run in the bottom of the 2nd when Dominic Zaher doubled down the left field line to score Michael Flynn, who had led off the inning with a single.
The Falcons now stand at 10-18 and will return to action Wednesday, April 4th. Fisher travels to Rivier College to take on the Raiders in non-conference action. The Falcons beat the Raiders 15-6 in their previous meeting back on March 26th.
