Fisher Sweeps Penn. State Brandywine in Four Game Set

ASTON, PA. -- Fisher College took two victories from Penn. State Brandywine (PSBW) on Sunday, February 26 improving their record to 11-2 on the season while PSBW drops to 0-6.  The Falcons were victorious in game one 6-2 and 4-3 in 9 innings in the second game.

Game 1

Fisher got on the board first, but not until the second inning of the game when Sami Bibovic reached base on a throwing error by the third baseman and advanced to second.  Haydell Alicea singled to left field with Bibovic powering on his wheels he scored from second base to put the Falcons up 1-0.

In the top of the 3rd inning,  Reinaldo Moreta doubled down the left field line and scored shortly after on a single from Angel Vargas.  Vargas stole second and was late pushed across home plate on a single by Jaime Villafane.  The Falcons were held to two runs that inning, but left the bases loaded.

Fisher pitcher Kelvin Guzman continued to shut down the Lions in the bottom of the 3rd inning.  The Lions must have had de ja vu as Vargas and Villafane both singled again in the top of the 4th to bring in Moreta and then Vargas to score taking a 5-0 lead.  

PSBW rebuttled and pushed one run across the board in the bottom of the 4th inning and 5th inning cutting their deficite to 5-2.  Fisher pushed one more run across in the top of the 7th to take a 6-2 lead.  Matthew Trotta came in for relief in the bottom of the 7th for the Falcons shutting down the Lions in order finalizing the score 6-2.  

Moreta led the offense for the Falcons going 3-for-4 including a double and 2 RBIs.  Alicea, Vallafane, and Vargas all added two hits a piece for Fisher.

 

Game 2

Fisher continued their momentum from the first game into the second game as they took a quick 2-0 lead over PSBW through the first three innings.  A walk to lead off the game led to a runner on third base with two consecutive steals leading to another walk and stolen base by Kyle Anulao to put runners on second and third, no outs.  Senior Sam Schroeder double down the left field line pushing across the runners, 2-0 Falcons.  A double play ended the inning forcing the Falcons to take the field. Zach LeBlanc was handed the ball for the start on the mound for the Falcons.

Both teams were shut down 1-2-3 for the next few innings, but the Lions tied the game up at 2-2 in the bottom of the 4th on a wild pitch and passed ball.  Fisher was again shut down 1-2-3 in the 5th, PSBW took a 3-2 lead on a single down the left field line.  

In the top of the 6th inning, Vargas singled, stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt.  Villafane reached first on a throwing error, but Vargas scored to knot the game at 3-3. Yamil Delgado had come in to toe the rubber for the Falcons allowing one hit, but no runs were pushed across.

Offensively in the 7th, the Falcons put a runner on, but trying to win the game they were quickly shut down.  Delgado kept the Lions off of the board forcing extra innings.

Fisher put runners on in the top of the 8th, but a runners interferance caused the inning to be over.  Delgado returned to the mound getting two quick fly outs to the outfield, but then a single put a runner on, but was left on base after the third out was recorded following a strikeout.

Anulao walked to start off the 9th inning and quickly stole second.  Schroeder singled down the right field line, scoring Anulao.  Shroeder stole second, but was stranded after two quick outs.  Delgado quickly retired two Lions with the third getting on with an infield single, but was caught stealing at second base to end the game.

Schroeder and Vargas led the offense with two hits a piece in the victory.  Anulao, Moreta, and Luis Torres also added to the Fisher offense with one hit each.  Delgado earned the vitory on the mound for Fisher. 

Fisher will have a few days off before taking on Worcester State University at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Mass on Saturday, March 4 at 11:00 a.m.
