Anulao Hits Game Winning Single in 10th Inning for the Falcons

Northborough, Mass. -- Senior outfielder Kyle Anulao hit a game winning single in the bottom of the 10th inning to win the game for the Falcons against the University of Maine -Farmington.  Going in to the 10th, the Falcons were down 5-4, but pushed two across to take the victory.

This game marked the first time the Beavers were outside this season dropping to 0-1 while Fisher improves to 13-10.

The Beavers took a quick 3-0 lead over the Falcons in the top of the second inning.  A triple, a single, and a few walks got the offense going for the visiting UMF Beavers.  UMF was able to add another run in the top of the 4th inning to take a 4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, the Falcons loaded the bases with Jaime Villafane reaching on a misplayed ball by the second baseman, followed by a walk to Sami Bibovic, and Haydell Alicea getting hit by a pitch.  Kyle Anulao stepped to the plate with one down hitting a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Villafane on a tag up.  The Falcons trailed 4-1.  

Starting pitcher, Bryan DeJesus was able to shut down the Beavers for the next five innings after surrendering four runs to the opponents.  

The Falcons knew their chances were expiring and in the bottom of the 8th inning they rallied to tie the game at 4-4.  Sam Schroeder reached on an error and moved over on a single by Reynaldo Moretta to put runners on first and second.  Angel Perez Vargas singled up the middle scoring Schroeder to cut the lead to 4-2 with runners on first and second again with no outs.  Joshua Casado laid down a sacrifice bunt moving runners over in scoring position with just one out.  Villafane singled pushing another run across the plate to bring the Falcons within one run, 4-3.  Bibovic hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Vargas to tie the game, but Fisher was unable to go ahead.  

Both teams had a scoreless 9th inning forcing extra innings on the brisk cold Sunday evening.

UMF put a runner on base on an error with one out.  He was moved over with a sacrifice bunt; putting a runner in scoring position with two outs.  A slow single to left field pushed a Beaver run across to put the visitors up 5-4.  

Designated hitter Joshua Casado started off the inning with a double to right center and was pinch ran for by George Gali.  Villafane reached on a fielder's choice getting Gali out at third base on the batted ball to shortstop.  Bibovic was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second for Fisher.  A hard ground ball, unable to be fielded by the third baseman, loaded the bases for the Falcons.  

UMF made a pitching change in hopes of shutting down the Falcons, but pinch hitter Ismael Perez had discipline at the plate forcing a bases loaded walk to tie the game 5-5 with one out.  Kyle Anulao stepped into the box and singled to right field bringing in Bibovic to score the winning run for the Falcons.

Kevin Bongionvanni earned the win on the bump for the Falcons.  Mark Leahy took the loss for the Beavers surrendering the two runs in the 10th for the Falcons.  

Anulao led the Falcons offensively with two hits including the game winning hit and two RBI's.  Other key offensive Falcons were Moreta, Vargas, Villafane, and Bibovic all with one hit a piece.  

The Falcons will hit the road to New York for their next game as they head to Bronx, N.Y. to take on State University of New York Maritime College.  Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.  UMF has some time off before they head down to Florida for their spring trip and take on Thomas College in Lake Myrtle, Fla.
