Clutch hitting lifts Falcons past Pioneers

(Lynn, Mass.) – The Fisher Falcons baseball team outlasted Point Park University at Fraser Field on Saturday morning taking the victory 3-2. Starting pitcher Bryan Dejesus (Irvington, New Jersey) had one of his better games all season with a dominant performance, striking out two while pitching a complete game, 7 innings.

The Falcons jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd after a run-scoring single by Angel Perez Vargas (Dorado, Puerto Rico). Point Park responded with 2 runs of their own in the top of the 5th inning.

Down 2-1, Fisher's Joshua Casado (Lawrence, Mass.) scored on a sacrifice fly by Cody Mercer (Salem, Mass.) that tied the game at 2 apiece. The next inning, the Falcons needed a timely hit and that's exactly what they got. Freshman Jaime Villafane's (San Juan, Puerto Rico) clutch RBI single in the 6th inning proved to be the difference giving the Falcons a 3-2 lead. Dejesus managed to finish out the game strong and held on for his 3rd win on the season.

With the victory, the Falcons are now 21-15 on the season. Fisher will take on College of St. Joseph (Vt.) later on today at Fraser Field in Lynn.
