Baseball: Mejia's four RBI power Falcons past Anna Maria, 10-3

NORTHBORO, MASS. – The Fisher College Baseball started off the 2021 season with a victory this evening as the defeated Anna Maria College, 10-3 at a chilly New England Baseball Complex. The win is the sixth consecutive opening day win for the Falcons.

Freshman William Carpenter (Brentwood, N.H.) go the opening day start and pitched well over his four innings of work. The left-hander allowed just two runs (both earned) on four hits while striking out four and issuing only two walks. Sophomore Angel Alicea (Caguas, Puerto Rico) was credited with the win in relief as he tossed three innings, surrendering just one run on one hit and striking out three. Freshman Angel Colon (Boston, Mass.) and sophomore Angel Rivera (Caguas, Puerto Rico) each pitched scoreless frames with Rivera picking up a strikeout.

Offensively the Falcons were paced by senior catcher Reynaldo Mejia (Lawrence, Mass.), who ended his night going 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Jacob Deziel (Merrimac, Mass.) set the table for Mejia by going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a RBI while senior Mitchell Lundholm (Plymouth, Mass.) was 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Sophomore John Batista (Lawrence, Mass.) and junior Victor Torres (Rochester, N.Y.) each added a base-knock to account for all nine Fisher hits in the win.

The AMCATS were guided by a senior Nick Genatossio (Sutton, Mass.) solo shot in the second inning and RBI base-hits from fellow senior Noah Holland (Sandwich, Mass.) and sophomore James Powers (Folsom, Calif.). Sophomore Joe Dorman (Sandwich, Mass.) suffered the loss as he allowed three runs (all earned) on one hit while walking three and striking out two. Classmate Chris Brouwer (Northbridge, Mass.) tossed the first-pitch of the season at 3:01pm and finished allowing just one hit while striking out four in his two innings of work.

The second game of this two-game season opening set will take place tomorrow evening under the lights at the New England Baseball Complex. Game time is set for 6pm.
