Baseball: Perez, Falcons top Anna Maria 10-1

NORTHBORO, MASS. – The Fisher College Baseball team earned their second win in as many nights as they defeated Anna Maria College, 10-1 under the lights at New England Baseball Complex. The win sends the Falcons to 2-0 on the season while Anna Maria falls to 0-2 in their season.

Senior left-hander Jose Galan (Alta, Puerto Rico) dominated in his season debut as he tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out nine. Junior Christian Dow (Rochester, N.H.) pitched the final three innings to earn the save while surrendering one run on two hits and retiring one by way of the K.

The Falcon offense exploded for 17 hits on the night, led by junior Nicholas Lucchese (Long Island, N.Y.). Lucchese went 4-for-5 with a double and three runs scored on the night while his double-play partner, junior Victor Torres (Rochester, N.Y.) finished the evening going 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. The first Fisher home run of the season came off the bat of junior Elijah Perez (Lawrence, Mass.), who belted a two-run shot to deep centerfield in the sixth inning. Freshman Dennis Santiago (Orlando, Fla.) knocked in the eventual game-winning runs with a two-out, two RBI double to right-center in the first inning and finished the ballgame with a 2-for-4 showing at the dish. Sophomore John Batista (Lawrence, Mass.), freshman Ivanuel Hernandez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) and junior Jacob Deziel (Merrimac, Mass.) each added two-hit nights in the win.

Sophomore James Powers (Folsom., Calif.) was the leader for the AMCATS as he ended the night going 2-for-4. Senior Derek Shell (Sandwich, Mass.) spoiled the Fisher shutout with a solo home run in the eighth inning in his 1-for-3 performance. Senior Adam Twitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and junior Jarrod Marifiote (Framingham, Mass.) recorded the other two hits in the Anna Maria loss. Senior Nick Gentatossio (Sutton, Mass.) suffered the loss on the mound, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out two. Sophomore Brock Eskildsen (Murrieta, Calif.) scattered two hits in his two frames of work in relief for the AMCATS.

Fisher will return to action on Saturday evening back inside the NEBC complex as they host Becker College for a 4pm double-header. Anna Maria will also be back on the diamond this weekend as they host New England College on Sunday afternoon for a 12pm double-header at NEBC.
