GWINNETT, GA. – The Association of Independent Institutions announced earlier today that freshman Dennis Santiago (Orlando, Fla.) and classmate William Carpenter (Brentwood, N.H.) have been chosen the conference's Player and Pitcher of the Week. It was an impressive season-opening week for the Fisher Baseball team as they went 5-1 and outscored their opponents 43-23.

Santiago had an impressive opening week for the Falcons as the rookie help guide the team to a 5-1 record. The switch-hitting infielder batted .625 (10-for-16) over the six games while collecting five RBI and recording four doubles. Santiago also registered an OBP of .700 and a Slugging % of 875 in his first collegiate action. In the team's 17-5 win over Becker (Mass.), Santiago went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and recorded multiple hits in four of the five games he registered hits in.

Carpenter was dominant in two appearances this week for the Falcons. The left-hander recorded a 2.89 ERA over a combined 9.1 innings in two wins over Anna Maria (2/23) and Becker (2/27). Against Anna Maria, Carpenter started and pitched four innings allowing two runs (earned) on four hits while striking out four. Days later, the Brentwood, N.H. native came out of the pen against Becker College and struck out 12 over 5.1 innings earning the win while giving up just one run (earned) on two hits. He also issued just three walks on the week.
