Baseball: Falcons suffer second loss of the season to Mitchell

NEW LONDON, CONN. – The Fisher College Baseball team suffered just their second loss of the season this afternoon as they dropped a 7-inning, light-shortened contest to Mitchell College, 11-4. The Falcons are now 7-2 on the year while the Mariners improve to 2-1.

Offensively the Falcons pounded out 10 hits, including seeing four student-athlete record multiple hits. Freshman Dennis Santiago (Orlando, Fla.) was the leader as he finished 2-for-3 with his first career home run, a 2-run opposite field blast in the fourth. Senior Mitchell Lundholm (Plymouth, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with a RBI and junior Nicholas Lucchese (Long Island, N.Y.) added a 2-for-4 performance as well. Classmate Jacob Deziel (Merrimac, Mass.) finished his afternoon going 2-for-3 in the setback for Fisher.

Sophomore Angel Alicea (Caguas, Puerto Rico) received his first loss of the season (3-1) as he allowed seven runs (three earned) on two hits while striking out two and walking six. Junior Christian Dow (Rochester, N.H.) surrendered three runs (all earned) on six hits and struck out four over his 3.1 innings of work for the Falcons.

Mitchell was led by junior John-John Jose (Middlefield, Conn.), who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a RBI. Senior Steve Cochrane (East Haven, Conn.) and sophomore Lelo Martinez (New London, Conn.) also chipped in with two hit (2-for-4) afternoons with two runs scored each. Senior Jeremy Sagun (Montville, Conn.) knocked in four RBI on his 1-for-3 showing in the win for the Mariners.

Senior Jakari Pellegrini (New Britain, Conn.) earned the win in relief as he pitched four innings, giving up just two runs (both earned) on six hits and striking out three. Fellow senior, Roland Thivierge (Portland, Conn.) got the start and allowed two runs (both earned) on four hits over his three inning of work.

Fisher will be back in action on Friday afternoon as they host Saint Joseph's College (Maine) for a double-header. The 2021 home opener at Fraser Field is slated to start at 3pm. Mitchell will host Nichols College in a Saturday afternoon double-header beginning at 12pm.
