Baseball: Gosselin, Falcons split day/night double-header

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. – The Fisher College Baseball team finished out their four-game weekend set this evening as they defeated Talladega College, 8-4 in the opener before falling to the host #8 Georgia Gwinnett, 12-2 in the nightcap. The split moves the Falcons to an overall record of 29-16 on the season and 2-2 in Association of Independent Institutions play. Fisher still has two games remaining on the regular season slate as they will battle Georgia Gwinnett on Wednesday afternoon in preparation for the 2021 A.I.I. Tournament on Saturday.

Game One: Fisher College 8, Talladega College 4 (Final)

Senior Jordan Gosselin (Rochester, N.H.) went 2-for-3 with three RBI as the Falcons picked up their second consecutive win over Talladgea College, 8-4 in the first game of the day. Gosselin smacked a RBI double off the left field fence in the second gave Fisher the early lead that they would not relinquish.

Also sparking the offensive effort was senior Jonathan Rosado (Bayamon, Puerto Rico), who scored three runs and swiped two bases in the contest while junior Victor Torres (Rochester, N.Y.) went 3-for-4 with a RBI. Freshman Ivanuel Hernandez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) also recorded a RBI as he finished the morning affair 2-for-3.

Freshman left-hander Andres Meletiche (Guayanilla, Puerto Rico) improved to 7-4 on the season as he tossed four innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on four hits and striking out five. Sophomore Angel Colon (Boston, Mass.) earned his first save as he finished the ballgame with 2.1 innings of one-hit ball.

Marcos Romano suffered the loss for Talladega as he surrendered six runs (five earned) on five hits over five innings. Adriel Acevedo blasted a solo home run as he finished 2-for-4 and Jose Santiago added a perfect 2-for-2 showing at the dish.

Game Two: #8 Georgia Gwinnett College 12, Fisher College 2

One tough inning was the downfall in what otherwise was a good game played by the Falcons in the 12-2 loss to the Grizzlies. The 8th ranked team in the country capitalized in the second as they were able to scratch across eight runs to run away with the win and move to 36-9 on the season.

Senior Cameron Pearson (Orlando, Fla.) collected two RBI in the loss as he went 1-for-4 with a RBI single in the third and followed that with a RBI groundout in the fifth. Junior Nicholas Lucchese (Long Island, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 while Victor Torres scored twice on his 2-for-3 night.

Junior right-hander Norberto Ceballos (Loiza, Puerto Rico) suffered the loss on the mound as he fell to 0-3 on the year after allowing nine runs (all earned) on four hits and walking seven. Senior Johann Doerrer (Dogleville, N.Y.) provided some long relief as he went 4.2 innings giving up just three runs on six hits and striking out three.

Freshman right-hander Gage Williams (Suffolk, Va.) was the winning pitcher for Georgia Gwinnett as he tossed five innings, holding the Falcon offense to two runs (one earned) on six hits and striking out four. Junior Rhian Mann (Lawrenceville, Ga.) finished off the ballgame with two innings of one-hit ball and four strikeouts.

Offensively the Grizzlies were powered by senior Griffin Keller (Pilot Butte, Saskatchewan, Canada), who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a home run. Freshman Chase Evans (Newnan, Ga.) was a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and sophomore Jake Defries (Crown Point, Ind.) set the table by reaching base in every plate appearance and scoring three runs from the leado
