GWINNETT, GA. – The Continental Athletic Conference announced earlier today that senior Nicholas Lucchese (Long Island, N.Y.) and sophomore William Carpenter (Brentwood, N.H.) have been named the conference's Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This the first time this season that a member of the Fisher College Baseball team has received conference accolades.
Lucchese had an outstanding five game week as he helped the Falcons to four wins. The veteran infielder batted .643 through the week and collected hits in all five contests. He registered four extra base hits, including a home run and drove in 11 runs batted in. In the three-game series sweep against the State University of New York Canton, Lucchese was 5-for-8 with six RBI, four runs scored, and a stolen base. He also added a 2-for-3, 2 RBI outing against Anna Maria (2/23) along with a 2-for-3, 3 RBI night against Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on February 17.
On the mound, Carpenter earned a win and a save over his combined nine innings of work. The southpaw picked up the three inning save in the 13-8 win over Saint Joseph's, allowing three runs (all earned) on five hits while striking out two. He followed the performance with six dominate innings in the 10-0 series finale over Canton. Carpenter limited the Canton offense to just three hits over six innings while retiring 10 batters via the strikeout and issuing zero walks.
The Fisher Baseball team will return to action next weekend, Saturday, March 5 as they travel down to Gwinnett, Georgia for a four-game series with the defending NAIA National Champion and #1 ranked team, Georgia Gwinnett College. Game time is slated for 3pm.
