Baseball: Hernandez blasts two HR in three-game sweep of SUNY Canton

NORTHBOROUGH, MASS. – The Fisher College Baseball team outlast the elements throughout the day as they swept a three-game series with the State University of New York Canton inside the New England Baseball Complex. The Falcons offense was keeping the dugout warm as they earned the three wins by scores of 16-4, 22-2, and 10-0. Fisher is now 8-3 overall on the season while the Roos fall to 0-3.

Game One: Fisher College 16, SUNY Canton 4 (Final)

A three-run first inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from senior Jacob Deziel (Merrimac, Mass.), jump started the Falcons as they cruised to an opening game one 16-4 victory over SUNY Canton.

Fisher tallied runs in five of the six frames they hit in while registering 18-hits. Joining Deziel in the big fly club in game one was sophomore Ivanuel Hernandez (PR), who blasted a majestic towering shot to deep right field in the fourth. Senior Cameron Pearson (Orlando, Fla.) went 4-for-5 to lead the offense with Deziel finishing 2-for-3 with 4 RBI. Hernandez ended his morning game with a 2-for-4, 3 RBI showing while senior Victor Torres (Rochester, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 with a RBI from the leadoff spot.

Senior Christian Dow (Rochester, N.H.) picked up his first win of the season with five strong innings on the mound. The right-hander allowed just one unearned run on seven hits and striking out seven. Freshman William De Gracia (Canovanas, Puerto Rico) struck-out a pair in his inning of relief with classmate Carlos Velez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) surrendering three runs in the seventh on three hits and one strikeout.

SUNY Canton saw junior right-hander Kieran Gibson (Chateaugay, N.Y.) suffer his first loss of the season as he gave up seven runs on eight hits over three innings of work. Offensively, the team collected eleven hits as sophomore Dylan Allen (Massapequa, N.Y.) cleared the bases with a three RBI double in the seventh to finish 2-for-4 with 4 RBI.

Game Two: Fisher College 22, SUNY Canton 2 (Final)

The Fisher bats remained red-hot entering the second game of the day as they plated 13 runs over the first two innings on their way to a 22-2 triumph.

Senior Nicholas Lucchese (Long Island, N.Y.) smashed his second homer of the season, a two-run blast to left field, in the opening frame to continue the scoring onslaught. Elijah Perez (Lawrence, Mass.) registered his first home run of the season in the fourth inning and Hernandez connected for his second of the day in the fifth. Lucchese ended the middle game going 2-for-4 with two RBI while Perez finished a triple shy of the cycle in going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI. Senior Jordan Gosselin (Rochester, N.H.) was also perfect at the plate as he ended his middle game with a 3-for-3, four RBI performance.

Junior Angel Alicea (Caguas, Puerto Rico) tossed five innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits to pick up his second win of the year. The right-hander struck-out seven and issued four walks before giving way to sophomore Fernando Ortiz (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) and junior Angel Colon (Boston, Mass.). Ortiz struck-out three batters in the sixth inning and Colon tossed a scoreless seventh for the Falcons.

Junior Jackson Troiano (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) allowed 13 runs on 12 hits as he was credited with the loss for SUNY Canton on the hill. Classmate Nathan Welch (Malone, N.Y.) was the offensive star as he went 2-for-3 and left-handed hitting freshman Chris Thew (Waddington, N.Y.) picked up a RBI on his base hit in the fifth. Junior Zach Miner (Plattsburgh, N.Y.), 1-for-4, drove in the other run for the Roos in the loss.

Game Three: Fisher College 10, SUNY Canton 0 (Final)

Sophomore William Carpenter (Brentwood, N.H.) pitched six scoreless innings as the Falcons completed the three-game, single-day sweep of visiting SUNY Canton.

The left-hander was stellar through his six frames of work as he earned his first win of the season. Carpenter surrendered just three hits while striking out 10 without issuing a walk. Junior Angel Rivera (Caguas, Puerto Rico) kept the shutout intact with as he struck out two and allowed a hit in the seventh.

Sophomore Emanuel Rosado (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) went 1-for-2 with a RBI and classmate Miguel Torres (Villalba, Puerto Rico) added a RBI on his 1-for-3 showing to bolster the Falcon offense. Pearson chipped in with two RBI (2-for-4) and Lucchese went a perfect 2-for-2 and also plated two RBI in the win. Freshman Dennis Senelis (St. Thomas, USVI) recorded his first collegiate hit with a single to right field in the sixth.

Senior Noah Reyes (Middletown, N.Y.), sophomore Nick Shoemaker (Greene, N.Y.), Welch and Gibson were the lone Roos to record base hits in the contest. Miner was the starting pitcher and took the loss as he allowed five runs (four earned) on three hits over his two innings of work. Junior Ty Reed (Gouverneur, N.Y.) pitched a scoreless sixth, allowing a hit and striking out one for SUNY Canton.

Fisher will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Gwinnett, Georgia for the start of a four-game weekend series at defending NAIA National Champion and current #1 team in the country, Georgia Gwinnet College. First pitch on Saturday is slated for 3pm.
