GWINNETT, GA. – The Continental Athletic Conference announced earlier today that a pair of Falcons were selected as the CAC Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week. Fisher junior Ivanuel Hernandez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) and sophomore Vance Serrano (Las Vegas, Nev.) were honored by the conference after their outstanding performances on the week for the Falcons.
Ivanuel Hernandez – CAC Baseball Hitter of the Week
For the second time this season, Hernandez was chosen as the Hitter of the Week. The Caguas, Puerto Rico native had a spectacular week in guiding the Falcons to wins in all six games played. On the week, Hernandez batted .667 with 14 hits, three home runs and 14 runs batted in. The catcher highlighted his week by blasting a go-ahead two-run home run in the 6th inning of game two against Northern Vermont University – Lyndon and then contributed defensively in the top of the 7th by picking off the potential tying run at second base in the 8-7 Fisher triumph. For the week, Hernandez also posted two doubles and scored nine runs while having a 1.190 slugging percentage.
Vance Serrano – CAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Serrano made last week's only appearance on the mound count, tossing a complete-game shutout in game one against NVU-Lyndon on Sunday. The right-hander scattered four hits and struck out seven batters as he picked up his second win in a Falcon uniform. The Las Vegas, Nevada native is now 2-4 on the season with 24 strikeouts over 29.1 innings pitched.
After a stellar 6-0 week with four wins over the University of Maine-Presque Isle and two against NVU-Lyndon, the 12-12 Falcons will return to action on Thursday afternoon as they battle against crosstown foe Emerson College. First pitch is scheduled for 3pm at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough.
