LYNN, MASS. – The Fisher College Baseball returned home to start an eight game homestand this afternoon as they swept visiting Vermont State University Lyndon, 4-2 and 11-5 in a double-header at Fraser Field. The pair of wins lifts the Falcons to 6-17 overall on the season and the program is now one win shy of 600. The Hornets, meanwhile, fall to 0-6 on the season as they return to action for the first time since early March.

The four-game series between the former Sunrise Conference foes will wrap up tomorrow with another twin-bill on the newly renovated field turf at Fraser.

GAME ONE: Fisher College 4, Vermont State University Lyndon 2 (Final)

Sophomore Yariel Salinas (San Juan, Puerto Rico) laced a two-out, two-RBI double in the 3rd inning as the Falcons picked up an important 4-2 victory over VSU Lyndon.

Salinas' knock highlighted a four-run frame and junior Vance Serrano (Las Vegas, Nev.) made it stand up as he picked up his first win on the mound this season (1-2). Serrano pitched six innings, allowing the two runs (both earned) on two hits while striking out four. Freshman Joziel Carmona (Comerio, Puerto Rico) earned his second career save as he struck out the would-be tying run at the plate to end the contest.

Salinas finished the contest 1-for-3 with the 2 RBI. Freshmen Jatnier Torres (Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico) and Alejandro Villar (Miami, Fla.) each added RBI singles in the third to account for the Falcons scoring efforts. They each finished the contest 1-for-3.

The Hornets saw Nathan Bigelow toss a complete game as the right-hander surrendered the four runs over six innings while striking out seven. Will Perkins lifted a sacrifice fly and Alberto Bustamante added an RBI single in the fourth for VSU Lyndon. Ryan Alt recorded the only other hit for the Hornets in the contest.

GAME TWO: Fisher College 11, Vermont State University Lyndon 5 (Final)

The bats finally came alive for Fisher in the nightcap as they scored double-digit runs for the first time in a month on their way to an eventual 11-5 victory.

Fisher plated five runs in both the third and fifth innings. Sophomore Gabriel Rivera (Miami, Fla.) had the big hit of the contest as his bases-clearing, 3 RBI, two-out triple gave the Falcons the lead that they would not relinquish. Rivera finished 2-for-3 with 4 RBI in game two. Junior Ruben Rodriguez (Nashua, N.H.) also added a pair of hits, both RBI singles, as he finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Torres collected two RBI on his 1-for-3 performance with both sophomore Armando Torres (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) and junior Michael Wright (Winnipeg, Manitoba) adding RBI singles.

The 11-run output was more than enough for senior left-hander Ronald Luke (Malden, Mass.). The veteran turned in one of his better outings on the season with 5,1 innings of work, allowing just two earned runs (five total) on nine hits and striking out nine. He is now 1-2 on the season. Juniors Spencer Monroe (Westminster, Md.) and Esteban Santos-Fuentes (Caguas, Puerto Rico) finished up the ballgame on the mound with 1.1 innings of shutout ball.
For Vermont State Lyndon, Jacob Wechselblatt was handed the loss as he gave up six runs (two earned) on six hits and striking out three over his three innings of work. Left-hander Adam English surrendered four runs and right-hander Jordan Aprin allowed one run. John Khun pitched a scoreless sixth for the Hornets.

Matt Doherty went 3-for-4 with a RBI and both TJ Santaw and Alt added a pair of hits to pace the 10-hit offensive attack. Dale Ostermann and Evan Duncan recorded RBI singles in the contest with Bustamante picking up another hit on the afternoon.
