LYNN, MASS. – The Fisher College Baseball program extended their season-long winning streak to ten games this evening as they were able to sweep the double-header against the University of Maine-Farmington this evening under the lights at Fraser Field. The pair of victories lift the Falcons to an overall record of 13-17 while the Beavers slide to 4-9.

Game One: Fisher 10, Me.-Farmington 8 (Final)

The two teams combined to score 14 runs over the final three frames as the Falcons held on for the 10-8 victory in the opener.

It was a well-pitched game for the first four innings as the two starters – Fisher's Jonathan Toro Mesa (Oranjestad, Aruba) and UMF's Will Harriman – matched each other almost pitch for pitch. The Falcons were able to plate a pair of runs in the second and third innings against Harriman as the team had a 4-0 lead after four.

However, the Beavers battled their way back into the contest as they struck for four runs of their own to chase Toro Mesa from the contest. With the scored tied, the Fisher offense exploded for six runs in the home half of the fifth, highlighted by a two-out, two RBI double from sophomore Armando Torres (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico).

Once again, Maine-Farmington clawed their way back into it as they plated four runs in the sixth and had the tying run at first base with one out. Fisher sophomore Nomar Rosario (Fajardo, Puerto Rico) came out of the bullpen and was able to induce a ground out and get a key strikeout to end the threat. Freshman Joziel Carmona (Comerio, Puerto Rico) then collected his 3rd save of the season with a 1-2-3 clean frame in the seventh.

Armando Torres finished 1-for-4 with two RBI. Senior Miguel Torres (Villalba, Puerto Rico) was 2-for-3 with two RBI and junior Ruben Rodriguez (Nashua, N.H.) also collected two RBI on his 1-for-2 afternoon at the plate.

Ryan Sargent was the key offensive cog for the Beaver offense. The first-baseman was 3-for-4 with 4 RBI, including a huge bases clearing double in the sixth. Sam Parsell added a pair of RBIs on his 1-for-4 game one showing while Colby Lewis finished 2-for-3.

On the mound, Toro Mesa received a no-decision after allowing four runs (all earned) on eight hits and striking out five over 4.1 innings of work. Junior Spencer Monroe (Westminster, Md.) was credited with the win as he was able to escape the jam in the fifth with a double-play.

Harriman went 4.1 innings for the Beavers as he surrendered six runs (five earned) on four hits and striking out three. Left-hander Chris Albert and side-armer TJ Dorn finished the contest on the mound for Maine-Farmington.

Game Two: Fisher 3, Me.-Farmington 2 (Final)

The Falcons rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the sixth for an incredible 3-2 walk-off victory in the eighth to cap off the nine-game homestand.
Junior Vance Serrano (Las Vegas, Nev.) laced a two-out double past the diving third baseman to score classmate Michael Wright (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) and complete the thrilling comeback. Wright hit a lead-off hustle double to left and was then moved over to third on a bunt by Rosado. After an infield groundout, Serrano connected with the first pitch he saw for the game winner.

Freshman Randy Espinal (Lawrence, Mass.) made his second start of the season and was solid on the mound as the right-hander allowed only one run (earned) on two hits over 2.1 innings of work. Junior William De Gracia (Canovanas, Puerto Rico) finished the game with 5.2 innings of one run ball to keep the Falcons within striking distance of a comeback. The left-hander struck out seven and walked four in his impressive outing, picking up the win.

Aaron Goshke was dominate on the mound for the Beavers. He was able to mix his pitches well and keep the Falcons guessing at the plate. The left-hander received the no-decision after 6 innings of work, surrendering just one run (earned) on four hits and striking out six. Jameson Bloch was the pitcher of record after giving up the game tying run in the seventh and the winning run in the eighth.

Maine-Farmington got on the board in the first inning when leadoff hitter Matt Marquis scored on a double-play ball. The Beavers then made it 2-0 in the fourth as Jonny Pruett lifted a two-out single to center that scored Sargent from second.

The Falcons finally solved the Goshke riddle in the sixth inning. Armando Torres led off with an infield single. Junior Jeremy Renta (Caguas, Puerto Rico) then smashed a double to the left center fence before Wright lifted a sacrifice fly to left to plate Torres and cut the deficit in half. Fisher was able to load the bases with two outs, however Goshke was able to strikeout his final hitter and end the threat.

In the home half of the seventh, senior Jose Aybar (Santo Domingo, D.R.) laid down a perfect bunt base hit off of Bloch to start the inning. He later moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single to center from Armando Torres.

Fisher will travel to the sunshine state this week as they return to action on Thursday afternoon (2pm) at Webber International University. The Warriors are currently ranked No. 4 in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll. This will be the first meeting between the two programs since 2005.
