LYNN, MASS. – The Fisher College Baseball team used a 10-run second inning this afternoon to propel them to a 21-2 win over visiting University of Maine-Augusta. The win lifts the Falcons to 8-9 overall on the season while the Moose fall to 1-8.
Senior Vance Serrano (Las Vegas, Nev.) pitched five innings of three-hit ball, allowing just one earned run, while striking out nine to even his record at 2-2. Juniors Joseph Gutierrez (Tacoma, Wash.) and Emmanuel Grullon (Santiago, D.R.) tossed an inning each in the mercy-shortened contest.
Offensively, junior Armando Torres (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) set the table with a perfect 3-for-3 night at the plate. The veteran infielder also recorded three RBI and scored three runs. Senior Michael Wright (Winnipeg, Manitoba) added three RBI of his own on the afternoon with classmate Ruben Rodriguez (Nashua, N.H.) leading the charge – collecting a game-high 5 RBI on his 2-for-3 day at the dish.
UMA saw their leadoff hitter, Elias Murray registered two of the team's four hits on the afternoon as he finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. David Jinks and Tristian Anderson also recorded base-hits against the Falcons. Right-hander Tom Gust (0-3) took the loss on the hill as he allowed 12 runs (six earned) over 1.2 innings of work.
Maine-Augusta will return the turf diamond here at Fraser tomorrow afternoon as they entertain Maine-Presque Isle in a 12pm neutral site double-header. Fisher will be back in action on Sunday afternoon with a 12pm twin-bill against Lesley University, who is coached by former Falcon and Hall of Famer Cody Mercier '14 (HOF '23).
