Falcons Open Tri-State Shootout with Victory

North Adams, MA- Fisher's Kyle Holmes exploded for 32 points in leading the Falcons past the Southern Vermont Men's Basketball team 85-81 in a fast paced game in the Tri State Shootout.  With the win, the Falcons (7-2) advance to face MCLA in the Championship game at 4pm tomorrow while the Mountaineers (2-7) will take on RPI in the consolation game at 2pm.

Holmes had 24 of his points after halftime as he carried the offense in the second half.  Brodric Smith added 14 points while Deandre Pennington chipped in with 12 points.  Roger Hamel added 11 points off the bench.  Darrell Grady finished a point shy of a double double with 9 points and 10 boards.

Holmes' stellar night offset a tremendous effort from SVC's Rayshawn Taylor.  The senior had 31 points, grabbed 12 boards, and added 3 assists for the Mountaineers.  Daemond Carter added 16 points and Davante Jordan ended with 14.  Josh Borders had 11 to round out the double figure scorers.

Fisher led by three points at halftime and increased the margin in the second half to ten points at 68-58 before SVC made one last closing run.  They pulled with three points on a Taylor triple with 4:30 left, only to see Holmes answer on the other end.  He would convert a four point play with 2:40 left to make it 78-69 in favor of Fisher.  SVC refused to go quietly though and battled back in the final minute.  When Taylor knocked down another three with 15 ticks left, it was just 84-81 Fisher.  Forced to foul, Fisher's Smith would convert one FT for a four point advantage and when SVC came up empty on the next possession the Falcons had secured the win.

Fisher shot 44% from the floor and buried 10 three's in the contest compard to 40% shooting for SVC.  The Mountaineers did some damage from beyond the arc though, converting 12 of 29 attempts in the game.
