Falcons squeak by Bulldogs 84-82

Franklin, MASS.-  Dean College Men's Basketball fell to Fisher College 84-82 in a tightly contested contest at Pieri Gym in Franklin.  The Bulldogs were outscored 12-4 in the final 3 and a half minutes as Fisher took the lead and held on for the win.

Down 48-41 at halftime, the Bulldogs came storming back early in the second half.  Effective shooting from Aziz Gilliam and Jerel Carter cut into the lead early in the frame, and Naquwan Solomon's layup at 13:55 gave Dean the lead at 54-53. The Bulldogs maintained their lead through most of the half, stretching to 6 on a 3 pointer from Justin White at the 9:24 mark.  

Fisher was never down by more than 6.   They continued to battle and a layup from Brodric Smith tied the game at 69 with 6:47 to play. Dean scored 9 of the next 12 points to take the lead 78-72 on a free throw from John Lambert, but the final 3 minutes and 16 seconds belonged to the Falcons.

8 Straight points from Fisher's Kyle Holmes tied the game at 80.   Holmes was masterful throughout the evening, scoring in the lane and from long range.  He finished with 32 points on 10-20 from the field, including 4-6 from downtown and 8-8 at the line.

Two free throws from Dean's Jacee Hamelin gave the Bulldogs a 82-81 lead with 37 seconds remaining, but Malik Wilson got fouled after grabbing an offensive rebound on the ensuing possesion and hit both free throws to give Fisher the lead with 22 ticks remaining.  They were able to hold off the Bulldogs final attempt and hang on for the victory.

Dean was led by 21 points from Justin White.  He shot an impressive 9-13 on the game and was 3-6 from three point range.  Dean also got strong contributions from Solomon (16 pts and 11 Reb) Gilliam (11 points, 5 assts, 4 rebounds) and Jacee Hamelin (11 points, 3 assts, 3 rebounds).

Jerel Carter and John Lambert also added 8 points a piece.

In addition to Kyle Holmes big night for fisher, Darrell Grady scored 20 points and had 5 assists and Brodric Smith scored 10 points and collected 8 rebounds.

The loss drops Dean to 9-7 on the year, and improves the Falcons to 10-6.

The Bulldogs next game is on Tuesday at Colby College at 7:00.

Fisher is home against Suny Delhi on Tuesday at 7:00 as well.
