Second Half Spark Pushes Knights Past Falcons 74-73

Lynn, Mass. – The Fisher College men's basketball team opens up their 2017-2018 season with a tough loss to Vermont Technical College on Thursday night.  The Falcons drop to 0-1 while the Knight improve to 1-0 on the short season.

Vermont Tech wasted no time, scoring a quick 3-point shot.  Jamontay Thompson struck back in the next possession, tying the game 3-3.  The Knights and Falcons traded basketball for the start of the game until Fisher pulled away, 18-11, with 13:26 left of the clock.  The Falcons held onto the 7-point advantage when Anthony Kellum hit a 3-point shot to take a 25-18 lead for the Falcons. 

Fisher went on a 17-7 run to close out the first half with a 42-25 lead over Vermont Tech.

Malik Tavares opened the scoring in the second half netting a layup for the Falcons.  Mikol Blake-Green added a layup before the Falcons offense would start to go cold.  The Knights went on an 11-point run to come within 5-points of the Falcons 49-44. 

Cameron Carter made three free throws to take a lead over the Falcons for the first time in the second half, 53-52. Brandon Rembert regained the lead for the Falcons with 5:09 on the clock after making a layup and then added a free throw after being fouled.  Rembert hit a 3-pointer moments later to give the Falcons a 65-63 lead. 

Fisher maintained a 7-point lead over Vermont Tech, 70-66, but the Knights kept knocking on the door.  Taylar Marston netted a 3-pointer to give the Knights a 74-73 lead with 5 tics left on the clock. The Falcons inbound the ball a quickly got it into Thompson's hands but was unable to net a shot for the buzzer beater.

Thompson paced the way with the Falcons scoring 15 points and grabbing 5 rebounds in the loss.  Kellum and Rembert followed with 12 points apiece and 10 rebounds combined.

Carter led the Knights offensively with 22 points while grabbing 6 boards.  Titus Smith (14 points, 4 rebounds), Lewis Holey (13 points, 4 rebounds), and Connor Miller (12 points, 6 rebounds) helped the Knights win their offensive battle with the Falcons.

The Falcons will hit the road on Sunday, November 5 when they take on the University of Maine at Machias.  Fisher will look to bounce back and get back on top with a victory over the Clippers.  First tip is slated for 2:00 p.m.
