Men’s Basketball Drops Close Game to Villa Maria 89-81

Lynn, Mass. – The men's basketball team dropped a close game to Villa Maria on Friday night, 89-81.  The Falcons fall to 5-13 on the season while Villa Maria improves to 15-3 with the victory.

Senior Jamontay Thompson opened the game with a made layup to put Fisher on the board 2-0 over the Vikings.  Kyle Snowden added a jump shot to put Fisher up 4-0 with 1:30 played in the half.  Villia Maria knotted the game 6-6 with a made layup by Lonnie Taylor.  Thompson netted a 3-pointer to expand the Falcons' lead 9-6.

Fisher went on a 6-0 run to increase their lead to 15-8 over Villa Maria.  Dominic Douglas hit two free throws to give the Vikings their first go ahead of the game, 16-15.  Malik Tavares hit a jumper to put the Falcons back up with just over 10 minutes to play in the half.  The lead continued to flop between teams, but not before Villa Maria expanded the gap to eight points with the Vikings on top.  Mena Yacoub shortened the gap to five after netting a 3-pointer, 38-33.  Fisher hit a couple shots, but Thompson hit another 3-pointer before the buzzer sounded for the half with the Falcons down, 42-40.

After the break, Villa Maria held onto their lead, but Mikol Blake-Green hit a layup to put the Falcons' back ahead, 50-49, forcing the Vikings to take a timeout.  Fisher expanded their gap to 6-points after Anthony Kellum was sent to the line for two free throws, making both, 57-51.  Blake-Green hit another jumper to put the Falcons up 8-points, but the Vikings quickly retaliated.  A 3-pointer by Viking Daniel Thompson at the 8:09 mark gave the Vikings the go ahead, in which they would not lose again.

The Vikings went on a 20-13 run to close out the game, securing their 89-81 victory over the Falcons.

Douglas paced the Vikings with a game-high 21 points while grabbing 4 rebounds.  Jay Scarbrough added a double-double in the victory for the Vikings.  DeJaun Owens, Thompson, and Taylor added a combined 38 points for the Vikings in their win.

Blake-Green led the way for the Falcons earning a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards.  Thompson also added 15 points in the Fisher loss.  Snowden, Brandon Rembert, and DeAndre Pennington added a combined 27 points for the Falcons.

The Falcons will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, January 13 as they play host to Pratt Institute.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (previously 3:00 p.m.) at the Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, Mass.
