Falcons Fall To The Eagles On The Road

Poultney, VT- The Men's Basketball team headed up to Vermont this evening with a two-game win streak, but could not come back with a win as they were defeated by the Green Mountain Eagles (2-0) in the NIAC conference opener, 76-55.  The contest remained close through the first ten minutes, but the Eagles started to pull away and led by as many 17 points before taking a 41-25 lead at the half.

Despite nice shooting from Jhalen Lumpkins (Sacramento, CA) and Giovanni Thompson (Kissimmee, FL), shooting a combined 11 for 24 from the floor, the rest of the Falcons were unable to get hot offensively as a team, as they were 1 for 18 behind the arc and shot just 32% from the floor.  Height was also a factor in the loss as the Eagles were able to block eight Falcons shots, while also forcing 18 turnovers. The Falcons did shoot better in the second half, only being outscored by five in the last 20 minutes, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.

Lumpkins led all scorers in the loss, scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double.  Thompson also scored in double figures with 11 points for the Falcons.  Ville Milan (Turku, Finland) played well underneath the basket, grabbing six rebounds.

The Falcons will look to get back on the winning track next weekend at UMass-Boston as they will participate in the Paula Titus Memorial Tournament.  They will take on Saint Joseph's (VT) on Friday, November 16th at 7pm.
