Boston, MA - The Falcons responded with a tough loss on Friday night to the College of Saint Joe's with a convincing win over the Curry College Colonels (0-4) in the Consolation Game of the Paula Titus Memorial Tournament at UMass-Boston this afternoon. Fisher is now back to .500 ball with a record of 3-3 with the 76-67 win. The Falcons never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 15 before claiming the victory.
Brandon Rembert (Camden, NJ) tied his season high with 23 points on the afternoon to pace the Falcons right from the start. The Colonels would remain close throughout the first half, tying it twice at 8-8 and again 15-15, but the Falcons went on 11-5 run in the last five minutes of the first half, capped by a three-pointer from Ville Milan (Turku, Finland) with :08 left on the clock, to take a 31-21 lead into halftime. Fisher would head to the locker room having shot 40% from the floor, while holding the Colonels to just 23% and forcing 12 turnovers.
Milan stayed hot from the perimeter out of the break with another three-pointer to put his team up 34-21 early in the second half. Curry responded however, with a 10-0 run in three minutes to bring them within three, 34-31, at the 15-minute mark, forcing Coach Rob Blouin to call a time out. A nice play out of the time out got Kyle Snowden (Santa Cruz, CA) open for a lay-up to put his team back up by five. The Colonels would stay within five points of the lead for the next six minutes of play but Fisher put the game out of reach with an 11-2 run capped off by two Snowden free throw's with 3:09 remaining in the game, putting his team up 66-51. Fisher would close the door, despite the late efforts from the Colonels and would hold on for the 76-67 victory. Again the Falcons would out-shoot the Colonels in the second half as they shot an impressive 52% from the floor, while holding their opponent to 39% and forcing another seven turnovers.
Giovanni Thompson was just one rebound short of a double-double last night against the Saints, but he earned his first of his Falcons career this afternoon as he contributed with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Aside from Rembert's 23 points, he also contributed with six rebounds and five steals. Jhalen Lumpkins (Sacramento, CA) and Snowden were the other two Falcons to score in double digits, as they had 10 and 12 points, respectively. Colonels were led by Jared Thorpe-Johnson who led all scorers with 27 points in the loss.
The Falcons head up to Vermont on Tuesday afternoon before the Thanksgiving break to take on Vermont Tech at 2pm.
