Men's Basketball Can't Get Past The Gators

Chestnut Hill, MA- The Men's Basketball headed to Pine Manor College this afternoon to take on the Gators in hopes to snap their six-game skid. The Falcons played hard, but they came up short and fell 71-54 to the host. The loss brings the Falcons overall record to 7-15 while PMC improves to 5-13.

The Gators came out strong in the first few minutes in the first half as they pulled out to an early 10-4 lead. The Falcons answered with the next five points capped by a Ville Milan (Turku, Finland) lay-up to get them back within one, 10-9. Fisher grabbed their first lead of the game just two minutes later as Jhalen Lumpkins (Sacramento, CA) scored his fifth point of the game on a lay-up to put his team up 13-12 with 10:36 left in the first half. Pine Manor answered seconds later as Jamel Hamens drained a shot from behind the arc to take the lead back at 15-13. Two back-to-back three pointers from Shaun Miller and two lay-ups from Ellis Reid would give the hosts their biggest lead forcing a Fisher time out with the Gators up 28-15. A 7-0 run from the Falcons just before the half brought them back to within seven, and the two teams would head to the locker room with the Gators up 33-26.

Fisher started the first four minutes of play of the second half strong as they outscored the Gators 10-5 and would get back to within two at 38-36 at the 16:08 mark. The Gators maintained a small lead over the next five minutes as Fisher would continue to match baskets with the home team. A Lumpkins lay-up would put the Falcons down by two at 45-43 with just over ten minutes to go, but the Gators erupted for the next 13 points and would go up 58-43 with 7:43 remaining on the clock. This run proved to be the difference in the contest as the Falcons could not recover, and would fall 71-54.

Lumpkins and Milan led the way for the Falcons, both coming off the bench, as they each tallied 13 points, with Lumpkins adding 10 rebounds to earn his fourth double-double of the season. Anthony Lewis (Lodi, CA) contributed nine points and four boards, while Kyle Snowden (Santa Cruz, CA) had eight points and dished out four assists to add to his team leading total of 85 for the year. Sayvonn Houston led the way for the Gators with 19 points, while Miller pitched in with 17, and Reid earned a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards in the victory.

The Falcons will travel tomorrow to Bryant & Stratton in Rochester to take on the Bobcats, a team they defeated 69-45 back on December 16th. The two teams will tip-off on Sunday at 2pm.
