Terriers Hold Off The Falcons Surge

Waterville, ME- The Men's Basketball team ended their fall semester of play with another tough loss, this time at the hands of Thomas College. The Falcons were down by as many as 22 in the contest, but battled back to tie it in the second half with less than three minutes to play. However, the comeback would fall short and the team could not put one in the win column before the break falling 81-76. With the loss the Falcons drop to 5-5, while the Terriers improve to 7-4 overall.

The Terriers could not be stopped in the first half, shooting an impressive 66% from the floor, making it tough for the Falcons to stay close in the first stanza. Jason Augliera (Discovery Bay, CA) led the Falcons in the first half with 15 points, but the team was chasing 17 after the first 20 minutes of play, down 50-33 heading into the break.

Fisher came out of the break strong, and the Terriers shooting came back down to earth, allowing the Falcons to get back into the contest. Down 59-37 with 16:56 left on the clock, a Kyle Williams (Fairfield, CA) three-pointer kick-started a 9-point flurry in just over a minute to make it a 57-48 Terrier lead with 15:30 on the scoreboard. TC responded with their own run, extending the lead to 17 again at 68-51 with just over 10 minutes left in the contest. The Falcons again had an answer, scoring the games next 14 points to make it a three-point lead for the home team. The Falcons tied it 71 a piece just minutes later on a Jhalen Lumpkins (Sacramento, CA) lay-up forcing a Terriers timeout with less than three minutes on the clock. The Terriers scored the next six points though, and it was enough for Thomas to hold on for the 81-76 victory.

The Falcons were led by Augliera who finished with 18 points on the afternoon. Lumpkins, Williams, and Cole Barton (Los Angeles, CA) all finished in double figures for the Falcons while combining for 12 boards and six steals, but it was not enough to lift the Falcons to their sixth win. This is the 7th game this season for Coach Blouin's team that has been decided by five points or less.

Lovegeurson Fleurine led all scorers with 22 points and pulled in six rebounds and three steals for Thomas while Zach MacKinnon went 5-8 (62.5%) from three-point range and scored 19 points for the home team.

Fisher will now be off for the Holiday break until Saturday December 28th when they head to West Hartford, CT to play in the USJ Post-Christmas Tournament. The Falcons will take on the host University of Saint Joseph Bluejays Saturday at 1pm.
