Men's Basketball: Gillespie, Falcons pickup 100-95 win over UMPI

BROOKLINE, MASS. – The Fisher College Men's Basketball team held on this afternoon as they defeated visiting University of Maine-Presque Isle, 100-95 inside the Pappas Gymnasium. The win pushes the Falcons to a 2-2 overall record while the Owls dropped their season opener.

Sophomore Cross Bandy (Bronx, N.Y.) led the way offensively in the contest as he netted the team-high of 28 points. Bandy was 11-for-20 from the floor while dishing out five assists on the afternoon. Junior Joel Finney (Los Angeles, Calif.) added 22 points and senior Dakota Gillespie (El Paso, Texas) chipped in with 13 points in the win. Both Finney & Gillespie knocked down a team-high four 3-pointers. Senior Christian Finney (Los Angeles, Calif.) pulled down 10 rebounds and junior Ke'Andre Penceal (Coram, N.Y.) inched closer to the 1,000-career point mark as he finished with 10 points.

Maine-Presque Isle saw four student-athletes reach double-figures, including senior Dany Harris (Danbury, Conn.) who totaled the game-high of 30 points. The Connecticut native was 12-for-21 from the floor and knocked down five 3-pointers while also leading the team with nine rebounds. Junior Gilbert Jean Mendez (Clearwater, Fla.) finished his afternoon with 27 points to bolster the offensive output from the Owls. Juniors Myles Jones (Mattapan, Mass.) and Charlie Mellick (Canberra, Australia) also wrapped the season opener with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Fisher will return to action on Tuesday evening as they host Eastern Nazarene College. Game time is set for 7pm. Maine-Presque Isle will be back inside the Pappas Gymnasium tomorrow afternoon as they square off against Dean College in a 1pm neutral site affair.
