Men's Basketball: CAC Tournament Preview

LAWRENCE, KAN. - Eight teams from across the country will compete for postseason hardware when the 2024 Continental Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship begins on Thursday, February 29, at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas.

Quarterfinal-round games are scheduled to take place on Thursday and Friday, March 1. The winning teams will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, March 2, before the champion is crowned on Sunday, March 3.

The two teams playing in the championship game will receive the CAC's automatic bids to the NAIA national tournament.

CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

Top-seeded Florida College will face No. 8 seed Arkansas Baptist College at 1 p.m. Thursday. Meanwhile, No. 2 seed Florida National University will play tournament host Haskell Indian Nations the day's 5 p.m. quarterfinal game.

Friday's action features No. 3 seed Washington Adventist University (Maryland) playing No. 6 Fisher College (Massachusetts) at 1 p.m., before No. 4 seed Northern New Mexico College plays No. 5 seed Voorhees University (South Carolina) at 5 p.m.

Florida College (24-4) is ranked No. 18 in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll. The Falcons captured the league championship in 2022 before taking runner-up honors last season. The team is riding a 13-game winning streak. Tyshon Judge leads the team by averaging 18 points per game and 35 total steals. Deonte' Martinez is averaging 10.1 points per contest and 122 total assists. Bryan Bayonne has made a team-best 53 3-point field goals.

Florida National (9-13) posted a 6-2 record in CAC games during the regular season. Jovan Debrito paces the Conquistadors' offensive attack at 23.3 points per game. Ray Daniel Parrish is averaging 16.8 points and 8.2 rebounds in 21 starts this season.

Washington Adventist (15-9) closed out the regular season by winning its last three games. The Shock are led by Tunde Scrivner at 14.9 points per game, while Isaiah Anderson is scoring 14.6 points per contest. Mohamed Bundu is averaging 11.6 points and six rebounds per game this winter.

Northern New Mexico (7-11) has five players that are averaging in double figures, led by Nigel Quaynor at 17.3 points per game. Malek Malual is averaging 11.8 points per contest and shooting 57.1% from the floor.

Voorhees (11-17) seeks to end a three-game losing streak in Friday's quarterfinal game. Tyler Willougby paces the Tigers' offensive attack at 16.5 points per game behind 45.6% shooting. Hector Rosario has scored 12 points per contest after starting 11 of the 19 games he has appeared in during the regular season.

Fisher (17-9) leads the NAIA in scoring at 95.8 points per game after making 246 3-point field goals. The Falcons are 9-5 on the road and won both of their neutral site games this season. Joel Finney leads the team at 17.2 points per game and has connected on 57 3-pointers. Ke'Andre Penceal is averaging 16 points while shooting 45.9% from the field.

Haskell Indian Nations (10-16) went 5-7 on its home court this winter and was 7-4 against CAC teams. Nahcs Wahwassuck leads the team at 22.5 points per contest and Tate Bear is averaging 19.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Bansi King has made a team-best 51 3-point field goals.

Arkansas Baptist (8-15) is led by Nate Braden at 14.3 points per contest and 31 3-point field goals. Jabez Sims has started 21 of the 22 games he has appeared in this winter. He is averaging 11.6 points per game.
