LAWRENCE, KAN. – The Fisher College Men's Basketball season came to an end this evening in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Continental Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. The Falcons, the tournament's 4-seed, were upended by fifth-seeded Northern New Mexico College 93-80 inside the Coffin Sports Complex on the campus of Haskell Indian Nations University.
Northern New Mexico advances to the tournament's semifinals tomorrow afternoon against eighth-seeded Carolina University, who upset defending champion and top seeded Florida College.
It was a classic 4 vs 5 seed game as the two teams traded runs for a majority of the contest with Northern New Mexico holding a slight 34-30 lead after the first 20 minutes of action. Trailing by as much as 11 points, the Falcons methodically chipped back into it. With about five minutes left to play, Fisher was able to climb and tie the contest at 64-64 after a junior Jordan Whitaker (Aurora, Colo.) drained a long three-pointer. However, that was as close as the Falcons would get as the Eagles pulled away late and survived.
Junior Ezekiel Edwards (Ettrick, Va.) led the offensive output as he finished with 17 points – one of five different Falcons to finish in double-figures. Whitaker totaled 15 points off the bench and senior Ke'Andre Penceal (Coram, N.Y.) completed his four-year Falcon career with a 12-point, 9-rebound performance. Juniors Justin Covington (New Haven, Conn.) and Anthony Douglas Jr. (East Hartford, Conn.) added 12- and 10-point nights, respectively.
Northern New Mexico also had five student-athletes reach double-figures led by sophomore Nigel Quaynor (Tema, Ghana), who finished with a game-high 23 points. Junior Tahj-Malik Campbell (Philadelphia, Pa.) added 20 points while the trio of seniors Gabriel Gutierrez (Chihuahua, Mexico), Eloy Medina (Albuquerque, N.M.), and freshman Jesus Mendoza (El Paso, Texas) all contributed 12-points apiece.
The Falcons finish the 2024-25 campaign with a 13-13 overall record.
