Men’s Soccer Wins in Overtime

Teaneck, N.J. – Fisher College's men's soccer team earned its first victory of the season in exhilarating fashion on Friday afternoon. The Falcons (1-1) took a 2-1 win in overtime from Yeshiva University (0-2).

In the 23rd minute, Jordan Markovich (Malden, Massachusetts) put a shot in the corner of the net to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Fisher had taken control of the first half out-shooting the Maccabees 10-6.

The Falcons continued to dominate the remainder of the first half, but were unable to put a ball past the goalkeeper. Heading into half-time, the Falcons held their 1-0 lead.

Just over 20 minutes into the second half, Maccabee Adir Alon put a shot passed Gary Maldonado (Lawrence, Massachusetts) to tie the score at 1. When regulation time expired, the score remained tied 1-1, forcing overtime.

Yeshiva kept possession of the ball during the first few minutes of overtime and took two shots on net, both of which were saved by Maldonado. Tyler Gahara (Hooksett, New Hampshire) scored a Fisher goal on a pass by Tom Pugliese (Saugus, California) to give the Falcons a 2-1 victory.

Maldonado earned his first victory as a goalkeeper for the Falcons, making six saves and only allowing one goal.

Fisher College returns to action next Saturday, September 12, when they travel to New London, Connecticut, to take on Mitchell College. First kick is slated for 3:00 p.m.
