Gahara Scores in Overtime for 5-4 Victory

Boston – Fisher College senior forward Tyler Gahara scored the winning goal 6:18 into overtime against Berkeley College of New York.  The Falcons defeated the Knights by a final score of 5-4 Saturday afternoon at Hormel Stadium.

Jordan Markovich started things off on the right foot for the Falcons scoring the first goal of the game with just under five minutes played in the game. The Falcons held onto the 1-0 lead for just a few short minutes before Berkeley retaliated and scored a goal to knot the game at 1-1.

In the 17th minute Markovich passed a ball to Robert Milne who was able to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead over the Knights.  Fisher was taking charge of the ball, but Berkeley was able to knot the game at 2-2 in the 27th minute.  Although the Falcons continued to pressure the Knights defense, the Knights took a 3-2 lead a few minutes before heading into the break.

A little over a minute into the second half, Berkeley's Solomon Ahanaonu increased their lead to 4-2 over the Falcons.  With over 40 minutes left in the game, the Falcons were not letting the Knights defeat them.  Markovich took possession of the ball in the 62nd minute and crossed it over to Milne on the left side of the field who dribbled the ball past a defender, shot and scored to decrease the deficit to one; 4-3 Knights lead.

Both teams continued to battle knowing anything could happen in the next 28 minutes of the game.  That's when, in the 83rd minutes, Markovich sent a corner kick right in front of the net where all players attacked the ball, but the defender got just over Pugliese and put the ball in the net to tie the game at 4-4.  Time expired causing the teams to head into a ten minute overtime.

After a short break, overtime started and Fisher immediately committed a foul.  Minutes later, some excitement ensued with Milne taking a corner kick for the Falcons, but it wasn't until seconds later that Gahara took a shot, it was deflected off of a defended and he took the opportunity to shoot again.  On the last shot, Gahara was successful in putting the ball in the back of the net to give the Falcons the 5-4 victory.

Fisher College will have a full week off before traveling to Vermont Technical College with the women's team for a 4:00 p.m. kick.  Berkeley College will play host to Webb Institute at the Aviator Field in Brooklyn, New York on Wednesday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m.
