Falcons Zapped by Shock 2-1

Medford, Mass. -- The Fisher College Falcons hosted Association of Independent Institutions conference opponent Washington Adventist University on Saturday evening at Hormel Stadium, but were unable to prevail.  Both teams' records are just over .500 with a 4-3 record after WAU defeated Fisher 2-1.

After last years matchup ending in a 1-1 2-OT tie, both teams were looking for redemption.  Things were a little slow in the first half with only 17 shots total between both teams.  Tyler Gahara managed to sneak a shot past the goalie in the 33rd minute for the Falcons to take a 1-0 lead.

Neither team was able to net a goal in the last 12 minutes of the frame halting the score at 1-0 heading into half time.

Washington Adventist players had a spark ignited at the half as they came out blazing in the second half.  Not even a minute into the half the Shock were able to get a shot passed Eliseu DiPena in the net to tie the game a 1-1 with the whole second half left to play.

Several opportunities arose for both teams, but neither were successful in taking the lead.  In the 78th minute, however, WAU was able to get a shot off and take a 2-1 lead over the Falcons with just 12 minutes left to play.

Fisher was able to take some shots, but goalie Pedro Merino was able to make the stops in net for WAU.  Although DiPena gave up two goals, he made seven saves on the evening while Merino made nine saves and gave up one goal.

Fisher will return to action on Saturday, October 1 when they head to Franklin, Mass. to take on Dean College at 2:00 p.m.
