Markovich Hat-Trick Powers Falcons Over Newbury 5-3

MEDFORD, Mass. - Nighthawks freshman forward Nilton De Andrade (Boston, Mass.) scored a hat-trick for Newbury, but was answered by Falcons senior midfielder Jordan Markovich, who tallied a hat-trick of his own, in leading the Falcons of Fisher College to a 5-3 victory over the Nighthawks on a chilly, fall evening on Tuesday.

Newbury led the match 2-1 at the half following a DeAndrade penalty kick goal with :47 seconds left in the half. It was De Andrade's second of the match to that point; he tied the game at 1-1 after redirecting a cross from Gabe Agbim(Dix Hills, N.Y.) in the 36th minute.

Fisher would answer quickly after the halftime break, scoring two goals in 1:50 to take a 3-2 lead, both on eerily similar free-kick chances from 25 yards out by Markovich. The Falcons senior took both free-kicks, which failed to be cleared by Newbury, bounced in the box, before crossing the goal-line into the right side netting.

Markovich would extend the lead to 4-2 in the 63rd minute on a corner kick by Tyler Gahara, which Markovich headed back across the goal and into the net, completing a natural hat-trick in just over 14 minutes.

De Andrade would try and bring the Nighthawks back in after scoring his third of the match on a shot initially taken by senior Alex Davis (Gloucester, Mass.), which De Andrade stuffed home the rebound.

Fisher added a final goal by Gahara, his 10th of the season, giving the Falcons the final 5-3 winning result.

Nighthawks freshman Casey Cisero (Shelton, Conn.) got the starting nod for the Nighthawks and was credited with the loss, dropping his record to 3-1-0 this season.

Fisher will look to continue the hot streak when they take on the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Thursday, October 6 at 8:00 p.m. at Hormel Stadium in Medford, Mass.
