M Volleyball: Falcons fall in program's first contests

JOHNSON, VT. – The Fisher College Men's Volleyball team's start their season off Falcons dropping two matches against the hosting Northern Vermont University-Johnson at Carter Gym. With the pair of losses, the Falcons fall to 0-2 overall on the season while the Badgers improve to 2-0.

Game One: NVU-Johnson 3, Fisher College 1 (Final)

The Falcons dropped the opener of the double-header to the Badgers by set scores of 25-8, 25-12, and 25-15.

Senior Gustavo Cruz (Humacao, Puerto Rico) and sophomore Ethan Marshall (Melbourne, Australia) paced the offensive attack for the Falcons as they each had 2 kills. Sophomore Gio De La Fuente (Buckeye, Ariz.) and freshman Kieza-Tre Walker (Honokaa, Hawaii) added 1 kill a piece. Walker also handed out 3 assists and had 2 service ace points in the opener while senior Vladimir Montanez Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) had a solo block and 2 digs in the loss.

NVU-Johnson offensive effort was led by junior Zachary Anderson (Sisters, OR) with 8 kills and dished out 10 assists. Freshman Bar Suster and sophomore Austin White (Randolph, VT) added 6 kills a piece. White as well as freshman Luke Walters had 7 service ace points a piece while Walter also added 3 digs. Junior Eli Harden (Artesia, NM) also chipped in with 19 assists and 3 digs in the win for the Badgers.

Game Two: NVU-Lyndon 3, Fisher College 0 (Final)

Although the Falcons fought hard, NVU-Lyndon was able to take the three-set match by scores of 25-10, 25-10, and 25-14.

De La Fuente and senior Rafael Fabra (Sao Paulo, Brazil) led the offense, having 2 kills a piece. Cruz was able to add 1 kill while Walker had led the team in digs with 5. Fabra was able to collect 4 digs, added 2 service ace points, and had 2 blocks. Junior Javier Garcia (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) chipped in with 2 assists while Montanez Garcia added 3 digs.

Anderson was the star once again for the Badgers as he recorded 6 kills, 8 assists, and collected 2 digs over the three sets. Susta followed with 5 kills and 3 digs while Harden dished out 9 assists. White as well as freshman Sam Munson each had 3 kills and senior Dominic Phelps (Lyndon, VT) collected a team high of 7 service aces points and 7 digs in the win.

Fisher will look to grab a win Saturday the 4th at Merrimack with a 7pm start. Northern Vermont-Johnson will also travel on Saturday to Colby-Sawyer to play at 11am.
