Lady Falcons swepted by Bloomfield College

Titusville, FL - Freshman Kirsten WIlson (Beaver Falls, PA) hurled the second no-hitter during Bloomfield's D2 era in her first career start and Hailey Marini (Kunkletown, PA) followed with a strong pitching performance of her own as the Deacons swept Fisher College on day two of their spring training trip to Cocoa Beach.

Bloomfield (4-0) got off to a fast start in game one when Angie Yoshizu (Kaneohe, HI) and Aubrey Orr (Gallup, NM) led off the game with singles.  Wilson then drove home Yoshizu with a groundout and Veronica Cobos (Torrance, CA) drove home Orr with a double to right for a quick 2-0 lead.

The Deacons added a third run in the third inning when Marini scored Cobos on a sacrifice fly to center before breaking the game open in the fourth.  The Deacons were aided by three walks and an error in the frame in addition to a two-run single by Orr and an RBI single by Kelly Stites (Rockaway, NJ)

With the game in hand, the only question would be whether or not Wilson (1-0) could nail down the no-hitter in her first career start.  The hard-throwing righty started the game by inducing two pop ups and then recorded the next seven outs via strikeouts.

In the fifth, Wilson struk out the leadoff batter, but then got into a jam by walking two straight hitters.  However, Wilson regrouped and got a fly out to right and a strikeout to end the game.

Wilson ended with 10 strikeouts and three walks.  She allowed just two balls to leave the infield all game and only allowed one baserunner to advance past first base.  The other no-hitterduring Bloomfield's D2 era came in 2011 when Lindsey Ciresa held Nyack hitless in a CACC win.

Bloomfield's 11-hit attack was led by Cobos and Orr, who each went 3-3 with two runs scored.  Yoshizu was 2-4 with two runs scored as well.

In game two, it looked like Marini had the potential to match Wilson as she got off to a great start in the circle in her first collegiate start as well.  Marini retired the first eight batters she faced before allowing a two-out single in the third.

Meanwhile, BC's bats stayed hot as they opened a 4-0 lead in that time frame.  Toni Coleman (Port St. Lucie, FL) drove home Yoshizu with a ground out in the first and Orr, Coleman and Stephanie Miller (Temecula, CA) each had RBI singles in the second.

Bloomfield again broke the game open in the later innings as they scored seven runs over the final two innings.  Kaila Dugger (Mesa, AZ) doubled home Orr and Angie Hauser singled home Cobos in the fourth to give BC a 6-0 lead.

After Fisher touched Marini for an unearned run in the bottom of the inning, Bloomfield answered with a five-run outburst in the top of the fifth.  Wilson struck first with an RBI double to left and Coleman added her second RBI single of the game to make it 8-1.

Emily Ebaugh (Spokane, WA) and Katie Aumann (Germantown, WI) each added RBI's to cap the scoring.

Fisher was able to mount a rally against Hauser, who had come on in relief of Marini in the fifth, scoring two runs with RBI's by Freshman Kristina Brown(Dixon, CA) and Sophomore Jade Bracero(Hoboken, NJ).  However, a strikeout and a comebacker sealed the 11-3 win for BC.

Bloomfield banged out 13 hits in the game, led by a 3-5 performance from Yoshizu.  Orr, Coleman and Hauser had multi-hit games as well.
