Softball falls twice to Rivier in afternoon double-header

(Nashua, New Hampshire) The Fisher College Softball team returned to action this afternoon as they dropped a pair of non-confernece contests to Rivier University, 15-4 and 20-1. Fisher falls to 0-14 while Rivier improves to 3-6.

Game One: Rivier University 15, Fisher College 4 (Final/5 innings)

The day's first game started out rough for the Falcons as they fell by a 15-4 final. Although the team did fight until the end as they put up a three spot in the top half of the fifth inning with consecutive base hits.

Fisher was led by freshman Kristina Brown (Dixon, California) who went 2-for-2 along with throwing out a run from behind the dish. Sophomore Jayla Vega (Hoboken, NJ), senior Michelle Fabiano (Nashua, NH) and sophomore Jade Bracero (Hoboken, NJ) all added RBI base hits for the Falcons in the fifth inning. Vega pitched the complete game – going 4 innings and allowing 15 runs (8 earned) on 9 hits and striking out two.

Sophomore Libby Sammon (Rockland, Mass.) tossed four innings of one-run ball as the Raiders earned their first win since the season's opening day in South Carolina. The 6-0 right hander was dominate as she allowed just one run on one hit while striking out two. Freshman Destiny Jordan (Lawrence, Mass.) came in relief and allowed three runs on five hits in her only inning of work.

Offensively for Rivier, freshman Shaylyn Freitas (Pelham, NH) was the star as she went 2-for-2 with 5 RBI in game one. Jordan was also perfect as she was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and senior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) added 2 RBI of her own as she finished game on going 2-for-3. Freshman Nicole Scotti (Concord, NH) had 3 RBI in the win.

Game Two: Rivier University 20, Fisher College 1 (Final/5 innings)

Game two started off well for Fisher as they scored first but ultimately a 10 run 3rd inning was too big of a hole to climb out of as the Falcons suffered the second loss of the day by a 20-1 final.

Vega had a solid second game at the plate for the Falcons as she was able to go 3-for-3 and Brown added an RBI double to account for all of the Fisher offense in game two. Freshman Victoria Park (Lynn, Mass.) pitched all four innings allowing 14 earned runs on 16 hits.

Sammon earned her second win of the day with four innings of one-run ball. Senior Kirstie Clark (Brentwood, NH) tossed a scoreless inning of work for Rivier.
