Lady Falcons Sail Past Pine Manor

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Pine Manor College senior Macayla Kirylo (Pawtucket, R.I.) drove in a pair of runs in game one but Fisher College topped PMC softball in both games of a doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The Lady Falcons improved to 11-18 overall, topping the Gators 9-4 in the opener before taking game two, 13-0. Pine Manor falls to 0-8 on the season.

Game One: Fisher 9, Pine Manor 4 (6 innings)

After two scoreless innings, the Lady Falcons scored seven runs on five hits while taking advantage of three Pine Manor errors to take a 7-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Sophomores Christine Briggs (Rumford, Maine) and Jade Bracero (Hoboken, N.J.) and freshman Morgan Selmi (Rohnert Park, Calif.) each delivered two-RBI hits in the inning to give Fisher an early advantage.

In the bottom of the inning, Kirylo delivered an RBI single with the bases loaded and one-out but Fisher starter Victoria Park (Lynn, Mass.) was able to get out of trouble, only surrendering one more run in the inning.

The Lady Falcons tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth when Selmi singled to left field to drive home her third and fourth runs of the game.

The Gators once again loaded the bases with one-out in the bottom of the fifth inning but were only able to plate one run when Mutsumi Ogiso (Gifu, Japan) scored from third on a fielder's choice.

Game one ended in the top of the sixth inning with the Gators unable to take the field due to an injury.

Game Two: Fisher 13, Pine Manor 0 (5 innings)

The Falcons stormed out of the gate in game two, scoring four runs in the first and five in the second to take a 9-0 advantage en route to the 13-0 victory.

Fisher's Kristina Brown (Dixon, Calif.) had a game-high four RBI, hitting two two-run home runs in the contest— one in the five run second inning and again the top of the fifth inning. Fisher's Emily Smith (Oxford, N.Y.) also went deep in the contest, hitting a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

Park picked up her second victory of the day, pitching five shutout innings while collecting three strikeouts.
