The College of St. Joseph Softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader match-up against Fisher College on Monday, April 17. The first game was a back and forth affair, in which the Fisher Falcons were able to come away with a 10-8 victory. Game two was a slugfest that ended with the Lady Saints losing 23-17. The two losses bring CSJ's overall record to 1-11 on the season. Their lone victory came against Southern Maine Community College on April 14. 

Game 1

The Lady Saints jumped out to an early 4-1 lead after the first inning against the Falcons. They were seeing the ball well at the plate and putting together hard line drives. They looked to be in control of the game heading into the fifth inning with a solid 7-3 lead. Starting pitcher for the Lady Saints Jenna Crowley was able to get two quick outs against Fisher in the top of the fifth and that is when they decided to go on a hitting explosion. Fisher went on a two-out rally at that point, which included three doubles and two singles, driving in four runs and evening the game at seven runs apiece. Jacqueline Rossi was able to score a go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth on a wild pitch but it was not enough to secure a victory. The Fisher Falcons came right back with a three-run top of the seventh and CSJ was unable to put any runs on the board in the bottom of the inning, which ended the game at 10-8 in Fisher's favor.

Crowley worked hard at the mound, but gave up 15 hits in her complete game outing. She stuck out three and walked four. The defense for the Lady Saints did not do the best job of backing up their pitcher. They committed two errors and made a number of mental mistakes throughout the game, which cost them runs. Crowley hit a two-run homer in the first inning to help her cause. CSJ put together 11 hits as a team, with eight players in the lineup tallying at least one hit.

Game 2

With a final score of 23-17, game two looked more like a football score than a softball score. The pitchers for both teams seemed a bit gassed and the batters on both sides took full advantage at the plate. The Falcons accumulated 21 hits compared to 19 for the Lady Saints. Offensively, both teams came out treating the game like batting practice, hitting balls hard and far. Sierra Jaeger, Shelby Fenton, and Jenna Crowley each put together four hits and had two RBI apiece. Fenton and Katie Jenkins each had huge home runs that traveled far past the blue fence in left-center field. The Lady Saints were also aggressive on the bases, with Jacqueline Rossi and Sierra Jaeger each stealing three bases throughout the game. Rossi and Jenkins led the team with three RBI apiece.

It was another back and forth game that seemed like either team could have won at any given point. The Lady Saints headed into the seventh inning only down by one run but that was when everything went wrong. The Fisher Falcons had their biggest inning of the day in the top of the seventh. They put together seven runs on five hits and an error. In a game that lasted almost three hours, the Lady Saints had nothing left in order to make up the big deficit in the last inning.
