Softball: Falcons suffer a pair of losses at THE Spring Games

KISSIMMEE, FLA.- The Fisher College softball team dropped a pair of games at the Spring Games yesterday in Kissimmee, Fla. The Falcons dropped the opener to the University of Michigan-Dearborn, 21-0, and then finished the day with a 13-5 setback to Hannibal-Le Grange University. The pair of losses bring the Falcons to 0-4 on the season.

Game One: Michigan-Dearborn 21, Fisher College 0 (Final)

Freshman Haley Tilberry (Moosic, Penn.) went 1-for-2 as the Falcons fell to Michigan-Dearborn, 21-0. Tilbery also suffered the loss inside the circle as she surrendered all twenty-one runs (thirteen earned) on 22 hits while striking out one.

Michigan-Dearborn starting pitcher senior Ashlynn Henderson (Temecula, Calif.) tossed a complete-game one hitter as the right-hander faced two over the minimum in the five-inning contest. Henderson struck-out thirteen hitters as she earned her first win of the season (1-5).

Offensively the Wolverines were led by senior Olivia Cottom (Holt, Mich.), who went 3-for-4 with six RBI and junior Madisyn Collins (Romeo, Mich.) who went 2-for-5 with five RBI.

Game Two: Hannibal-Le Grange 13, Fisher College 5 (Final)

The Falcons came out strong in game two as they held a 5-3 lead after 2.5 innings of play. However, a few miscues allowed Hannibal-Le Grange to plate ten unanswered runs as Fisher dropped the finale 13-5.

Tilberry notched two more hits, including her first career home run – a three run shot in third, as she finished 2-for-3 with three RBI. Classmate Bianca Robinson (Mashpee, Mass.) contributed by going 1-for-2 with two RBI at the plate and sophomore Kiarra Pouncy (Enterprise, Ala.) added a base knock in the loss.

Senior Corrie Edstrom (Shrewsbury, Mass.) threw a complete game as she allowed just three earned runs (thirteen total) over her five inning of work while giving up 12 hits and striking out two.

Trojan junior Michaela Badger (De Soto, Mo.) went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs batted in. Sophomore Valeria Smith (Houston, Texas) took the mound for the Trojans and also threw a complete game, going 5 innings with 2 ER and 5 strikeouts.

Fisher will return to action tomorrow as they continue their Florida trip with a pair of games. The Falcons will battle Carlow University at 10:15am before taking on Concordia University (Neb.) at 2:30pm.
